It appears you are right. I went to work for another contractor that uses the OmniTracs and they have a caps on the camera that faces the driver and they said they do not record the driver, only the road.

So must be on a contractor basis. Glad I found a new contractor, making much more money and way less stressful than the last contractor. No bs, good trucks and well maintained.

My company has cams in the truck with audio. When I get tired I talk to myself to keep me going....smart drive cam people probly think I'm a psycho. Or maybe when I put my butt right in front of the cam and rip a good one. Haven't been talk to yet about that.

Appears I spoke too soon. FedEx came down on my contractor for not having their driver facing camera's on in the cab, so now we have the camera's on in our trucks.

FedEx is mandating it of all contractors.

I'd say your contractor is just feeding you lines.

They tempt contractors with bid points and $$$ and #### for complying before a certain deadline.
I spoke with a contractor who told me they get an extra point for every month before the deadline they have a camera in or something along those lines, I can't even remember honestly.

Cameras are coming. Leave if it bothers you. The way I see it, I'm in a day cab. Don't give a #### if someone's watching me. I'm paid a fair wage for my time at work and then I go home. If someone wants to watch me earn a paycheck have at it.
Now I do have concerns over the audio and privacy on the phone and whatnot but I've got a great contractor and I trust that it won't be a problem. Video privacy doesn't concern me, I'm not driving with my dick out

I'd say you dont know what you are talking about. FedEx does give incentives for getting them in and active early. But they are mandating the driver facing cameras. My contractor has had them in the trucks for months now but had the driver facing side capped. Some guy had an accident and FedEx wanted the driver footage and they couldnt provide it because they didnt have it. FedEx said uncap them or you lose your contract.

You dont speak for everyone else. Some of us have a good track record, no dot violations or tickets and no accidents and we dont need a #### babysitter in the ####ing truck watching us.

I didn't mean that as an attack at you sorry if it came off that way. There are still contractors around me that don't have any cameras at all so I don't know why they'd threaten to cancel your contracts for that but we both know Fedex isn't afraid to throw their weight around.

I don't think anyone's gonna change their mind about this on the top floor. It sucks for drivers like you who aren't willing to put up with it. In my situation I'm not gonna find anything better than what I've got here even with the cameras so I just deal with the Fedex bull crap I can't change and work around the stuff I can.
If drivers do leave over this it's really just gonna hurt the contractors and not FedEx which isn't fair but what can you do

Well, I'm staying put and putting up with it as much as I dont want to. My contractor sweetened the pot for me and I'm making $70K running a solo dedicated route, off on SUN/MON and sleep in my bed every night. I dont know where else I'm gonna find that in Colorado without either working on the extraboard at night or going OTR. So I'll just put up with it but I'm not happy about it at all.

:mad:oh it gets better, now we got that garbage Mobileye crap installed too. Beeps at you if you go out of your lane or are too close to another vehicle. As if we really needed ANOTHER distraction!

Thankfully mine come with on/off buttons so I just turn mine off while I drive. How much dumber can this get?

I remember having that piece of crap when I worked for Werner, it lasted all of 3 days before I yanked on the power cord until it came free from whatever it was plugged into and into the trash at the TA it went. No one ever said a word either.

Granted I cant do that here, but at least I can shut it off so I dont have to listen to it.

I need to get out of the truck and go to law school. Oppressive micro managament is no way to drive at all.
