There are companies that are paying by the hour already. And the clock isn't abused by the employee. But if one isn't working for a outfit that pays for pre/post trips, fueling, drop&hook or on the clock while waiting to be loaded or unloaded. Then that driver will need to gain employment from a real company. And get away from the rinky dink transport outfit. But there's a lot of free labor with certain outfits out here. And it's only because the driver(s) allows it.

So all this safety talk is a load of bull. When 80% of wrecks are caused by four wheelers. And speed limited on trucks make the hiways more hazardous. The more trucks doing 57-62 mph in the right lane. The more ppl will get in the left lane to pass. Witch at times causes wrecks.
Common sense isn't a widely used concept in daily life anymore. So it's safety that's always preached now. Running at the posted speed is far safer than running well below it. But slower trucks equals cheaper insurance. So companies put speed limiters on trucks. And all these other things to make a safer little trucker huh?
There will be more accidents from drivers being forced to run when they have the time to drive. Yea I may have drive time at 0245 but my body doesn't work like that. So let's see how many drivers will be in a ditch from being forced to run when there is drive time availible. But elogs and slow trucks with a camera and radar system is safe huh?TokyoJoe, Intheoutfeild and snowlauncher Thank this. -
If the truck threw the ABS and laid down that rubber, the office is gonna find out soon enough if there are bodies all over the cut open car. I don't live in fear of it. I'll use the #### things If I have to. Remember I got my own GPS in real time on my own laptop also driving my own laptop cam in additon to anything supplied by compnay.
There is no problem.
Next. Mountain work. There are certain things that must happen around mountains in bad weather. If a company meets these expectations im still here. Eh?
Any company is what it is you make of it. You can make it really easy or hard on yourself. Your choice. -
That's pretty much how it works where I'm at.
The difference is we have a relatively low hourly rate, but we're paid the hours that loads are computed (miles = drive time + load volume + trailer hook/unhook time, etc).
So, one guy works 10 hours and does three loads for a total 15 hours on paper ..he gets pd 8 hours + 7 hrs OT. Another guy works 10 hours and 'milks' 2 loads for 10 hours on paper. He'll get pd 8 hours + 2 hrs OT. The latter isn't milking anything but his own paycheck, as he worked the same hours as the first guy but got 5 hours less OT.OPUS 7 Thanks this. -
Wow I can't deal with this anymore. 66 mph is a speeding violation!!! Get out of here I could see if I was doing 86

go get your own authority, truck and find some freight. there. nobody "dweeb looking over your shoulder'"
what it really is,is most people want to run like the independents do,but have someone else hold all the risk of owning the equipment finding the freight and paying for everything.
watch those same guys turn into dweeb desk jockeys looking over shoulders if they ever get to the position of owning all the risk and equipment.Bo Hunt and HighCountry Thank this. -
I agree. I too think that all drivers should be paid hourly instead of mileage. I've been hourly for a little more than 6 months now since I started hauling tank and I don't think that you could pay me enough to go back to mileage pay.
From the minute I go on duty, to the minute I go off duty, I'm getting paid. Stuck in traffic? No problem, getting paid. Held up waiting to fuel? No problem, getting paid. Plus, overtime after 40 is the icing on the cake.OPUS 7 and Toomanybikes Thank this. -
Yes in region 5 that may be so. But in region 6 having trk wit own authority and trailer ain't cool if things are slow. There are ppl now that aren't doing well or selling out as O/O's

I would be looking at a minimum of 40 dollars a hour logged, driving and on duty. That's essentially a dollar a mile. What with all the 3 and 4 dollar NDA contracted freight floating around the coasts expedited by teams that should cut down on the office bloat.
Gross wages for 306 service days via logs for 2001 would have been 170,000 about the same as a ATP Airline pilot. Instead of a measly 65K, which is subject to fines etc. -
it's slow all over. but your reply pretty much makes my point. you want someone somebody else to hold all the risk, and hand you a truck and go pretend you're independent.51.50 and HighCountry Thank this.
