I always liked super 10's. And the last version of it that was electronic assisted shifting the lightning 10. I drove for a fleet of 150 trucks super 10s and then lightening 10s were what they had. Then around 2004 or so when the super 10 was discontinued they switched to straight 10's. Super 10 was half the shifting of a straight 10 going through all of the gears. Ergonomic.

Was the lightning 10 what they called the one that auto shifted back and fourth between 9th and 10th? that was a sweet set up. Definitely nice when in the rolling hills.

I disliked that auto shift feature. I think you could have it programmed out but none of our shop mechanics had access to the computer... because of people's trucks getting turned up lol. What I always did was when it was in the middle of the auto shift between 9 & 10 was to bump it into neutral and mash the go pedal to the floor. It would rev the motor up and down a hundred or so rpms about 5 or 6 times then the motor would rev up normally as one would expect.

When the motor rev'd up normal like that then you just put it up into to 10th or back into 9th and keep on trucking. This would disable the auto shift feature and turned it into manual shift until you turned the truck off then you had to do that procedure all over again if you wanted manual 9th & 10th. Back then companies didn't keep up with idle time and we didn't turn off the truck every time we stopped. I think even the old air assisted split shift super 10's were auto shift on the top 2 gears but could be switched over to manual shift in the same manner as described above. I don't like auto shift I like to row and split every gear every time lol.

I had a super 10 in my 98 770 I unprogrammed the auto shift because I did not like it downshifting and going to jake when you backed off at lower rpm, could get you into a ton of trouble on ice, other than that the only complaint I had was low and reverse were too high a ratio, hard to start on a hill and hard to back up nicely

The one i had never have me a problem like that. It would only downshift to 9th when climbing a grade. And shift up to 10th once you got over the top and rpms started to climb back up. It wouldn't downshift simply from letting of the throttle, tho it would if you were off the throttle long enough to lose enough speed that once you got back on the throttle you were to low of rpm.
