I just recently began running hazmat loads (been driving for 4 years) and I got my first taste of California, lol.....And my first CSA points too.
Was pulled in at Donner scales and given a level 3. I wasn't really nervous since I've been inspected 8 times prior with no issues. I even made sure I had my updated CA hazmat license and such.
Well, the officer asked me where my federal hazmat license was. He stated that it should be in my permit book. I have never heard of that paper, band I certainly didn't have it on me. He said he would let me go without having it faxed, but cited me on the inspection report.
The line reads :
1160.4 (g) (2) No copy of HM transportation license --392.2: no copy of federal hazmat license in possession
Now I realize that I taken for a bit of a ride here since I'm a hazmat novice. Knowing what I know now, I can also picture the disaster of me arguing with this guy over a non existent piece of paper.
He issued a fix it ticket, so I have get it signed by any Dot once I get the paper. My work says they are appealing the citation since it's bogus, and said to find someone to sign off on it.
Just wondering if anyone has had this happen? I figured the closest thing I have to a federal hazmat transportation license is my endorsement on my CDL.

I'm not sure what you can do here. But this just isn't right. I'd be interested in hear what DOT will have to say to you, about getting this signed off.
Something is definitely off-kilter with this situation.Dave_in_AZ, G13Tomcat and slim shady Thank this. -
Might be some kind of permit from the state of California to haul hazmat in their state?
G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
I'm on my way back to CA in a couple days, so I'll be stopping by a scale to hopefully get it signed off on.
I'm interested in hearing what they say of course. I will try at needles first...I guess the ag folks have nothing to do with that if there are no Dot there. I will be prepared to be examined again lol. -
He checked out my state specific permit for CA and said it was all good. I carry that and the ones for CO and NV

At least he didn't get you for those muffler bearings rattling. He must have been feeling nice today.
Plantfoam Thanks this.
