    Hello All,

My name is Zlatko and I just started driving few months ago. Couple of days ago I received a ticket for not wearing a seat belt in Portge, IN. The office did a Driver/Vehicle Examination and gave me a report for it as well as the ticket for not wearing a seat belt which is $158. I have been doing some research and I know I can't get points for this, but could this impact me negatively in a different way? I looked into hiring a lawyer which is about $300 but I'm still not clear on what to do. Any advice will be appreciated.

    Thank you.

It was probably included on the inspection which means it'll show up on the companies CSA score and your PSP in the future. If the ticket gets reduced or thrown out you may be able to get it removed via the DataQ system, but I've heard/read that that's a tough row to hoe so good luck with that.

Thanks! I was reading the same thing regarding the CSA score, however what I'm still trying to decide if I should hire a lawyer or not? The few I spoke to claim that they can get the ticket dismissed but as mentioned the same does not go for the CSA points which can still remain. Because of that I'm torn between just paying the ticket or like a said getting an attorney

Doesn't matter if you beat the ticket. When it comes to CSA scores, the fact that a ticket was issued is all that counts.

You don't have to hire a lawyer, to talk to a lawyer. Most give an initial consultation for free. A good one will tell you if have a case, which you probably don't. Don't waste a lot of time or money on this. If you fight it, will only get more expensive, and you will also loose profitable driving time. Cut your loses and pay the fine.

While I would talk to a lawyer to see what they say....
Seat belt tickets are a lot of points on CSA (7). Just to compare driving 11-14 over is 7 also, and driving without a license is 8. Companies hate seeing seat belt violations as it's so easy to not get one and it hurts them hard when one is given. At our company 2nd seat belt ticket is fired. So yea, get it dismissed if you can and more importantly put on the seat belt when driving.

Unless you proof that you had seat belt on to Data Q committee, even court dismissal of actual ticket won't help.
7 points times 3 on company's CSA for the time been. In one of the worst categories of BASICs. Nothing but time will resolve it.
    Buckle up!

Lots of advise here, I'm sure you can make a solid decision on what direction to go.

My question, why wasn't you waring your seat belt? It's the law everywhere.

Put your big boy pants on and accept the fact you were caught. Don't worry about the points. This ticket is not going to cause you problems getting a job provided there is nothing else serious on your record. Trucking companies all across the country need warm bodies driving their trucks. In fact so much so that most has dropped their standards some. However next time you get in a vehicle regardless of if you are driving or just a passenger buckle up.

Thank you all for the advice I appreciate your time as for the 'putting my big boy pants' they are on thank you! No need to be rude or tell me to accept the fact that I got caught, clearly it has been accepted. As for the person asking why I wasn't wearing one the answer is I did, however upon being pulled over I took it off the get my documents so the officer took as I was not wearing it to begin with. Again thanks to all the nice folks kind enough to give me advice.
