our trucks weigh 19400, full of fuel, full of DEF, me sitting in the drivers seat, and NO driver gear/goods.

    we figure this way.........

    truck - 20,000
    dry van - 14,000
    freight - 46,000

If the driver is huge and has lots of stuff, he is full of fuel, he will be 20,000. That means you must be below half tanks to scale a load of sugar at 46,350 (in that range).

most guys can time the interstate scales so they have half tanks when they roll in. that leaves plenty of room for 46,300#
I don't dare tell the shippers that I figure I can haul a load that is even heavier.....like this....

18,850 - truck low on fuel with me in it. (Subtract 100 gallons of fuel at around 6#/gal. that sheds 600#)
13,900 - Great Dane champion SE dry van actual weight
    47,150 - remains for freight.

that is really pushing the limits and timing would have to be impeccable to make that happen. it would have to be loaded perfectly to get the drives and tandems legal. It can be done, buts its not practical.
    realistically, 46,500 is the limit.

Its really hard to scale the tandems and drives with 47,000 in the box, but it can be done.

wow that's a whole lot of fuel to be saved over a year i assume you were traveling at the same speed both times? Driving slower can increase your fuel economy by quite alot.

    Oldironfan Thanks this.
