Roehl was good for a new CDL holder. I went thru their school and EVO I & II. If you want to learn all about trucking BY THE NUMBERS, then Roehl is good. They are very strict about HOS (hours of service) and running legal.

Prime has an extensive training program. But like all companies, Prime has good trainers and "folks who have no business training." Roehl was that way too - I had one really good trainer and one really PSYCHO trainer!

I can't advise you on which way to go - it's 6 of one and a half-dozen of the other. But I can say this. I would do it the same way if I had to do it all over again. Roehl was a great place to start, and Prime is a great place to be right now.

Let me know if I can be of any further help.

You said it when you said you would do it the same way. I would blame you. Like you said, and I understand, you can't advise. I just have to decide if I can stomach the 3-4 mos teaming, Yuk. The good alternative, going through Roehl, requires I jump from one to the other. It is good to hear your ok where your at. It "bodes well" for the future, gives credence to all the time I've spent here on this site putt'n up with all imbeciles and there rude ### comments.

    Thanks MG :yes2557:

One other point to ponder. Regardless of which way you decide to go, remember that YOUR attitude will determine YOUR success. Nothing lasts forever, and there were times when I would literally strive to survive for just one more minute when I was with my psycho trainer. I kept my focus on the prize - someday this IDIOT will be out of the truck and it will just be me. Keep a positive attitude and don't give anyone the power to spoil your day. If you are a spiritual person, you will quickly discover that God has a warped sense of humor, and He will demonstrate that every day you are with someone else in your space. Hopefully you will find a trainer that is compatable with you, and the time will fly by! But if not, then just remember that it is only for a little while and NEVER give another person the power to control your emotions.

OK, enough is enough!!!! I'm done! Good luck with whatever choice you make.

You can help me out here with another thought. Is this a bad time to start training. I hear that January, February, and March are really slow months for drivers.

I dont know about how well freight is during those months, but I do wish I had a little more winter experience in a truck.

I think any winter driving under training conditions would be a big help. I am going into winter with some mid spring Utah snowfall experience, and I sure wish I had more.

Honestly with the way the economy is, I think it will be really tough to predict how much freight will change. Ive been moving, even while my Fleet Manager says freight is slow. It goes from being pre-planned loads to waiting an hour or so after unload when he says this.

IMHO, anytime is a good time to start. But it would definately be helpful to have an experienced driver sitting next to you when the weather takes a crap. Today was a good example...I'm in Western Michigan, and the ice/snow mix is really flying! I pulled into the TA at exit 12 on 1-94 around 2100 hours - enough for today! And the parking lot is covered with about 2" of ice/snow mix. My load of yogurt to TN will get there just fine tomorrow.
