Thanks for the info, I'm trying to keep expsenes down. I'd like to have the weather channels so I don't stumble into something I don't wanna stumble into, ya know? I guess I'll get a Cobra 29.
What kind of CB should a newbie get?

my uniden 78ltw has weather channels (that i rarely use) and it kicks ### !!!! . i got mine from sparkys , all his radios come with a free tune and alignment . plus uniden has 30 and 40 buck rebates on their radios till 12-31-08 . if youre a do it yourselfer on the tuning part uniden also has great deals on referbed units on their website .
walkie talkies are a waste of time in a mobile . imagine trying to extend the antenna in the vehicle ? youre inside a big metal can also , that not gonna help your tx/rx at all . -
You can get a seperate handheld weather radio for pretty cheap these days.

Most of the sterios in the big trucks have weather radio built into them. My hubby's does.

If you consider buying a used CB radio from an individual, have them install the CB in your truck and then YOU do a couple radio checks to insure that it works. Shrink rap means absolutely nothing. Any crook can put a piece of wood in a box and shrink rap it.
.
It is unfortunate that many new drivers will not make it in this business. With the current high turnover rates, that is just a fact. When they have a truckstop yard sale to get enough money to return home, you may be in a position to pick up their gear for cheap. Just something to consider. -
I guess I'm a bit old school here, but I run a Galaxy 44 that I've had for near about 15 years +/-. It still walks and talks as good as it did the day I bought it. Dunno if Galaxy is still making the 44, but I know their still making new radios everyday. When you get right down to it, if you're gonna talk on it much, it's prolly worth spending a little money on. If you're gonna passively listen, one's probably just as good as another.
Main reason I bought mine was back in the day, a whole bunch of us used to run Lower 14 for channel. Rarely got up on the regular 40. Really just depends what you're going to do with it...... just like everything else. -
I agree 100%. I have Uniden 78 in my truck and a Galaxy in my pick-up. The Uniden works just as well as the Galaxy. I also agree that most people that a have radio "peaked and tuned", wind up with a crappy radio that will never be the same. I learned that one from personal experience. -
theyre good radios i got one layin around here somewhere. they quit making them back in nov of 06Last edited by a moderator: Oct 24, 2008
