Got it. So the alternative route is a mess. Terrible.

Look at where his trailer tandems were-pretty much ALL THE WAY TO THE BACK! He was rolling heavy, and shows from the way the load split the trailer roof open like it was tissue paper. Also notice the chassis on the tractor twisted like a pretzel but the cab remained upright. Either way, that driver is DONE!!Getsinyourblood Thanks this.

It really is time for a career change. 2nd time in 3 months I've been right behind an accident that basically makes news across the nation. I see way too many other near-misses out here weekly, see it at truck stops, shippers, etc. The quality of driver out here today is ####. Hell I've been backed into 3 times and hit by a guy pulling forward in the past 2 years when I was sleeping and I usually park in places where you'd think you'd never have a remote possibility of being hit. I'm only out here 4 days a week on average too so that isn't good. And the overregulation irks me more and more each year. I've never had plans to run under an elog so that mandate will probably end up being the best thing that ever happened to me when I get off the road and leave this in the rearview mirror. I'll likely still drive in some capacity but it'll be paid by the hour and home every night, I can afford a paycut. I'll end up sitting here probably 10 hours waiting for the highway to reopen and won't get paid a cent. Those days are ending soon...

Another senseless loss, SMH.
lovesthedrive Thanks this. -
Total time I spent in this back up - 9:56. They finally cleared exit three for trucks, thankfully it's a 20 mph zone so I was able to click over to driving at 10:02. Going thru Terre Haute was hilarious - any lot that a big truck could get into had trucks wedged in.

from the comment section of the news site......................
I was a witness and was almost involved in the accident, semi was not speeding. Traffic stopped so quickly, I was along side the semi, when he crashed. Everybody was trying to get stopped, I was lucky that the left lane did not come to a complete stop, the right hand lane did. The semi went by me as a car can stop quicker than a semi. He crashed just as I was passing him, it was like an explosion, parts and pieces flew in front of car , over and under my car. Iwas able to stop about even with the truck that got hit. The driver of that semi and I went to the back of his semi to check on the other semi driver not realizing there was a car involved. But a fire started and it escalated quickly! I called 911 and fire trucks were there amazingly fast. We were on a bridge area so you could not take the ditch! Ironicly about 150 ft ahead of us was the sign posting oncoming construction! It was just a terrible terrible accident, if my lane would have come to a dead stop i probably would have involved I was just lucky!Lepton1, LoneCowboy and tucker Thank this. -
You just can't follow too close or lose your situational awareness even for 2 seconds on those heavily travelled interstate highways, especially during construction season and most especially during spring and summer weekend periods.
Why is this so hard for some to grasp?
And that area has been under construction for many years and backups there are typical, especially on "pretty weather weekend days" [Mother's day weekend no less] so are we dealing perhaps with a new driver?Last edited: May 14, 2017
