anybody care to post up some pictures of crates they've tarped on a low boy. I've got a crate to pick up tomorrow that's 54" wide so I'm trying to see how to bungee the bottom of the tarps to a closed deck trailer to prevent the flapping. My first thought is to use maybe 4 or 5 of my 4 inch ratchet straps to go around the crate every four feet or so to keep it from ballooning.

Sometimes I throw straps over the crate and under the tarp so the tarp will lay ontop the straps...
Big_Red Thanks this. -
I'll look and see if I've got any pics

Not a real good pic. The key is to get the front and back sewed up tight. Keep the sides close to your crate and strap over it all.

Since the crate is narrow get a drill, screws and emt straps. Put em where you need them.
TripleSix, MJ1657, DDlighttruck and 3 others Thank this. -
this was a gantry crane i hauled, similar problem, i made sure to throw a bunch of straps over the top under the tarp to minimize flap.

I'm leanin towards @noluck method. I did @Logan76 method when I was on the flatbed and I never liked how the flaps close around the straps when the load is narrower than the trailer. You get that triangle that may eventually swallow air at the top and eventually pop all the bungees on the rear Flap.
As far as securing the crate...anybody ever hook the chain on the end of the ratchets to a binder and tighten with the binder AND the ratchet itself? (Binder on one side ratchet on the other). The crates 6k so it won't need 10 million straps but that also tells me if anything gets loose it'll be that much more likely to walk around on the deck.
All in all I'm seeing
Tarp first...bungee the flaps...4 or 5 ratchets around the crate to keep the tarp glued to the crate...then 4 straps over the crate with binders on passenger side ratchets on driver side. -
Won't have time to grab all that this time but definitely a long term solution to keep in a tool boxLogan76 Thanks this.

If the crate is positioned right and you can run bungee's under it, I have ran them under and trough to both sides. It also helps if you don't have a lot of excess to tuck and fold
