Yah....this thread isn't gonna go far; because I agree with everyone else.....there IS NO such thing as a "great" company any more. At best you'll have to look for a "decent" or "good" company....and even THAT will be a hard search.
Great companies

I'm brand new to this industry and I have contacted over 30 companies and I have to agree with the others that there isn't a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow with any company. There are the "Good, bad, and the ugly" (Oh yes, now you have that theme song in your head for the rest of the day! ha!)
I just try to weigh through the positive and the negative and determine what is good for me when I look at each and every company..
I believe the good out of the industry that I have found is that companies need drivers and there is job security. -
A great company would be one that had freightliner classics w/ 700HP N14's, 18spd manual good rear ends. With bose speakers and sat radio. One that paid maybe $28 p/hr and overtime after 8hrs. And pulled there own freight of course. All drivers were treated fairly and had experience.
A company where dispatchers had people skills or was just from
Heaven it self. A company with a safe stat/csa score of 0. Because there equipment and drivers were top notch. There also wouldn't be a need for a safety department. If the driver needed to get food while on the yard there would be 69-72 big block chevelles on the yard. And the cops wouldn't pull you over as you peeled out leaving the yard.
A company where female drivers didn't have male drivers talking down or saying she can't do something. And every Friday there would be a party on the yard with seafood or steaks to let the drivers know they are appreciated. An overall place where everyone got along from top to bottom. And oh yea the company would be a private one not on the stock market.
Every truck show would be won by this company's trucks and trailers. Because the trucks would be polished to a high shine and the trailers would be top notch with 120 running lights. And this company would set the standard for the industry.
This was the way trucking use to be minus a few little things!!!4mer trucker, Dharok, jaso37 and 4 others Thank this. -

Just my opinion, what is a great company for one, may not work for someone else. I have been out here for a good long time. I have always said I hold the world record in driving jobs. Always looking for that perfect job we all know doesn't exist. Well.... I found mine, although I have only been here 4 months I can say something I have never said about any place else I have ever worked for. I will retire here. Private fleet hauling their own freight. Dedicated route, work 5 days a week, home every Friday, just got across the board raise, and Awesome benefits. With the new raise on our dedicated route we will gross over 70k . To alot of folks this might sound great, and to me it is. But most can't handle running teams ,and most can't handle doing the same thing week in and week out. I LOVE MY JOB AT HOBBY LOBBY !!! I know I might be sounding like a recruiter but I assure you I'm not. Come on over the waters fine. They really are a great company to work for.
Crusader66, Dharok and jaso37 Thank this. -
