I've noticed that quite a few companies say they'll give you a bonus for a clean inspection. I've been driving for a year and a half and only had one inspection (it was clean, yay!). I guess what I'm wondering is how often should I expect to get an inspection and what all will they check. I've heard something about different levels of inspections (1, 2, and 3?). Also, is it realistic to check my truck and trailer over really well and request an inspection? I've been told by a friend that this is a ridiculous idea but I'm not quite sure I understand why (plus I'm stubborn, lol). I mean, if everything is good and you'd pass an inspection and you have time, why not get the bonus? I would think as long as you're polite and professional that DOT would have no real reason to have it out for you. I do realize that if anything IS wrong it'll show up on your record or something (not entirely sure how that works, either). Is there any way to be 100% sure you'd pass?

Gosh, I feel like such a noob asking all of these questions, lol.

Level 3 is registration, insurance, medical, license, bol.

Level 2 is 3 plus truck and trailer walk around checking lights, wipers, washer fluid, horns, etc.

Level 1 is 2 and 3 plus the office will check brakes and other items under the truck.

My company doesn't give extra money for Chan inspections, even if they did, i wouldn't want to invite an officer to scrutinize over the truck if they don't have to.

Unless your company has a terrible safety score.
You will not get inspected often.

Since I've been with my current company in 3.5 years only been inspected twice.

    And only once before that.

I got a level 2 today. Made me happy
Yes I passed. I got a couple stupid tickets in the last 6 months. Drove the company score and mine up. Not a good thing. This will help some. Plus I get a cash bonus. But right now it doesn't matter to me, I'm just happy to get the monkey off my back so to speak

I got pulled over in Oklahoma last week pulling an oversized load. The officer asked to see my permit and truck registration. He then asked if I got paid for good inspections. I said no, which is true, and he said "Have a nice day!" I think if I had said yes he would have just written out a good inspection and sent me on my way.

In Cali, they put a numbered sticker on your curbside windshield. It tells the leo's at the coop, the time frame you last got inspected. We're talking about Cali now.....If the number in the windshield is old, no matter how straight your rig is, sooner rather than later, your gonna get pulled in and get a level 1. There's been times when I had hrs to burn and I knew the number posted was old, I'd pull in to the coop and have them inspect me. Heh heh heh, they loved it and took it mighty easy on me as for time.

If your not driving a beater, what's the worry. Company's I've drove for, have a policy of, company assumes the responsibility. Hand the document to the coop, and if there's a violation, they write up the company.

It's nationwide actually. Called a CVSA Inspection Decal. You can read about it here....About Inspection Decals - CVSA - Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance
