I don't understand the point you are trying to make here. The fact is as a pilot car operator you have to have certifications in some states, special gear in others. Your car can only be so big, yet it can't be too small. Oh and you have to carry enough gear for your trucker too. It takes a lot to just jump out and shut down a lane of traffic. they do more than that though. They ride around doing route survey's as well. If you hit with the high pole, now we gotta start all over and go a different way. There is more to it. You sir are just ignorant of that. I don't pay round trip. I only pay or the company pays lded miles plus overnight if you are with me for more than one day
Monday, I have a car booked to follow me across Md. Just heavy. Md law if over 120k must have a car..Don't ask, their rules. Now this person will follow me for 201 miles. Yep done this rte many times. Will take 6 hours. They gross 350 dollars. Day rate.
Not bad for a day's work. Now take out gas and set aside expenses. They still make money. Plus this broker I use has her regular cars that are on time and ready... So she is the lady I call when in this area... got her on speed dial. Lolrank, Crusader66, 1951 ford and 13 others Thank this. -

Some of the worst pilot cars I have had are retired door swingers.. When I drove we used to do this and that. Yea in a box trl. Pilots need to understand turn radius just like the driver of the ld. They need to be able to grab a lane when I ask or before by watching ramp and traffic flow. Not just ride behind me trying to catch my draft for better fuel mileage

More and more states are wanting certified pilot cars. I took the Wa. State class. 8 hours for that class out of my pocket, but I took the class just to have it if I needed to be a pilot car in a pinch

It's not side tracking! That's the point. We need respected professionals out here. Punctuality is a big part of being professional. If you can't do the most basic part of your job, you're probably not very good at the rest of it. The point I am making to you is your flippant attitude that a monkey could do it is wrong. And if you keep treating quality professional who are good at their job like they are monkies all you'll be left with are monkies. Unfortunate that people that only deal with the lowest class of folks doing a job; assumes everyone doing that job is as bad at that job as the folks they deal with.
I'm sure there are a lot of burger flippers turned pilot car drivers or truck drivers. That is not the caliber of people I will accept into my organization or business model. They are not Professionals. I am a professional: therefore I only deal with Professionals.
