Cross Transportation is a new trucking company start up. Our founder has been in the transportation industry for 35 years and we are small and family owned. We have recently purchased our first truck and are in search of a couple of part time drivers. A good fit would be somebody that wants to be semi-retired or only wanting to drive part time, 3 or 4 days per week.
It is our intention to keep this truck rolling 6 days per week on average if possible. However, this is a new company with 1 truck so we do not want to promise all the miles needed to support your family full time. This is intended to be a supplementary income position.
What a good fit will look like:
Looking for part time work-drive when you want to
Wanting to be an integral part of a small family owned company that will value your experience
Wanting to become part of building a company and helping to form the way we do business
2 or more years of experience
Clean MVR
No more than 3 moving violations in the previous 3 years
Not cited for a D.O.T. defined accident in the previous 3 years
Class A cdl
Compensation can be either percentage of the load or cpm, whichever you prefer.
Location: Nashville, TN
Email me at: Sam@cross-trans.com
Tell me a little about yourself and we can set up an interview.

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Where are you located?
-
Nashville, TN

Pay Scale:
If you want to go W2
- 22% of all in rate to the customer
- OR $0.42/mile for all miles
- 25% of all in rate to customer
- OR $0.48/mile for all miles
- Traditionally w2 is preferred by the employee for the benefits, little better tax rate vs 1099, job security with the company you are working for.
- We are a very small company so any medical/401k/etc requirement benefits will not be applicable to us. Group health insurance with us will cost the same as it does going through the marketplace and getting it on your own since we will not have any significant discounts due to the small size of our company.
- W2 employees will have workmans comp, social security taxes (half paid by the employer-about 6.2%), unemployment insurance.
- Medical, family and medical leave, 401k, disability insurance additional life insurance are not required for us and will not be offered. Obviously it is our goal to grow to a size such that we will be able to offer this and maintain full time w2 employees.
- You will pay more in social security taxes on 1099- this means that of the 12.4% taken for social security taxes per pay check, the 1099 person will pay all 12.4% instead of the 6.2% they would pay on w2
- You will pay more for Medicare taxes on 1099- Medicare taxes are 2.9%. A w2 employee will pay half and the company will pay the other half.
- 1099 employees can take more deductions than w2 employees. Deductions such as: Business use of home, automobile expenses used for business, individual ira plans, banking fees, transportation fees among others
- 1099 contractor: Set your own schedule, Work as per your desire, Use your own equipment to work, Chose to work the projects you want, Can turn down work as you wish, work with more than 1 client
- w2 Contractor: Work for and under someone else, Have a set work schedule, Are on a work schedule are provided the tools necessary for work.
- set your own schedule
- work as you desire: That said, we will want to keep trucks at 70mph or below, we will want pti's, maintenance logs, be on time
- drive when you want
- No forced dispatch: turn down work anytime you want. hopefully not in the middle of pulling a load (hah!)
- Work for another carrier in addition to us if you want
- We will provide all necessary tools: truck, trailer, onboard tools, elogs/paper logs, gps, etc.
We have no problem doing w2 if that is what you are more comfortable with. It will not make a difference to us at all for either one. -
