Are you looking to be local, or regional, or Otr?
-
That's a good question. I wouldn't mind go over the road my first year and seeing the country. But home time is also important. So at this point I will take whatever just to get my one year in. Once I do that I see lots of cdl a jobs on indeed Monday through Friday but they all want one year experience.
-
Okay, well if you don't mind Otr Calex isn't bad. Otr was a problem for me being that I have smaller children at home.

How was the pay ? If pay was decent, I would of stuck around specially being close to home. Training? Why do you need a trainer to hold your hand ! Watch and learn on your own. If the trainer is pretty much uptight, just watch them and watch the ones around you. Ask a question if you must but mostly watch. It's all about common sense.
US Foods ? My son has been with them for almost 6 years. He brings home very good money but a lot of work/overtime, excellent bennies. And the shifts takes getting use to. Mostly starting around 12am, 1 am etc....augiedoggie41 Thanks this. -
Sherm117 if you don't mind me asking you a few questions. Did Calex make you sign a contract? How was the hometime? Were they good about paying you on time and correctly?
-
To answer your question, I graduated school with zero confidence. I couldn't back or shift worth a lick. My school wasn't the best at all. ( no knock on them )
Once I got to Calex it was a do as I say type deal. ( the trainer ) he used to talk to me like I was stupid, oppose to teaching.. That was almost two years ago, some people are fast learners, some aren't. Unfortunately I'm a slow llearner loll. I can't say Calex is a bad company, but I will say their training isn't the greatest at all. I wasn't the only one there with that issue. In fact, it was well over 10 students there whom wasn't confident at all on their own. I was lucky enough to move on the the next & receive the proper training i needed. A few others however didn't make out as well as me. Accidents etc.
The pay i believe was 32 cents a mile at that time. I moved on and found better & gained my experience. I'm just giving my experience.Diesel Dave Thanks this. -
Um, yeah def signed a contract for training that sucked if memory serves me correctly if you left in a years time they wood charge you, and keep your past paycheck. While in training you will be on a salary. If you're what they call local you will be regional and see home time a few times a week, if you're Otr prob twice a month or so. You can search them on this website and read up on them. Also, they have auto's ( when I was there ) that sucked for me since I didn't know how to shift lol

Do you have any opinion on Prime? Also do you think going to California first time out is to much?
-
Prime is good also. California isn't bad if the trainer is good lol
