Why are they courting with disaster?
The rules are the rules. They recinded the no defect rule. That doesn't mean you don't have to inspect. You simply do not ha e to fill out a no defect dvir.

i don't think we are disagreeing with you. it's called CYA.
it just "makes sense" to have all documents filled out, if only to show/prove a driver checked things out. much easier to show paperwork, over just saying "it was done".....more weight in the paper trail.. but that's me, and a few others here. -
I am quite familiar with the rules and regs on this issue. I'm also quite familiar with the twisted tactics employed by lawyers looking for a quick and easy payday. You can do it however you choose. I choose to cover my ### at all times.

My company specifically asks us not to do one unless there is a defect. First company to do that. They usually go over above and beyond.

Our eLogs don't let us do a daily DVIR. We too are specifically told to immediately get any defects corrected and then no need for a dvir, but if we must potentially travel far for repairs then do one and note accordingly and don't submit unless problem was not corrected. Then be ready to explain why it could not be corrected.

which is why, i'd carry my own DVIR book.Broke Down 69 Thanks this.

To the OP, you may be looking for another job.
As for the ticket, that's on him, have him pay for it and don't worry if it isn't fixed, they will look at the records when they write it up and then put the truck out of service, that will get his attention.nj trucker Thanks this. -
But you are supposed to note any items repaired on a dvir. That way they know you are doing repairs on your truck. At least that is what I have always been told. I might be wrong.
