Class A definitely just in case you change your mind. The class B experience may or may not be recognized by other companies. If it is and that's a long shot, it's not a 1:1 experience equivalent. For example, 12 months class B driving might only be counted as 3-6 months driving experience for a class A job (and that's a weak "maybe"); but most likely it won't be considered at all. Stick with the class A job.

Visit NOAA, look for your local town. Then find your radar. Go to radar accumulation by storm total. You will understand where it rained and how much. You can do the same thing tracking present storms and future storms by modeling results offered to the weather people.

I used to work for a outfit that it's a given during rain you don't work. SO... no show. Unless Boss man said to be there in the morning. I would expect him there also.

Trucking is a feast and famine, You might wait a couple days loading meat or something then all of a sudden 5 dispatchers asking if you are going to be in Sacremento monday am which is second day from Kansas. (And I was... not very good shape but I was...)

Chinaman said it best, you can spend your life on the road as I did and not much to show for it, except all your body parts in good shape if you are lucky. It's not for everyone. As we say here in Arkansas, you can pretend to be working while spinning money at the unemployment on partial claims or you can actually go work for the Government and get paid a ridiculous amount of money for mediocrity. Just have to show up 15 minutes prior to your assigned start time.

Don't worry about that class A or B too much, I have sat with TBH of Westminster Md one time and interviewed for a cement mixer class B position inside their yard full of Class A trailers sitting unused in the rain. I had a class A at the time and they showed discrimination. Despite the fact I used to deliver dry bulk to their silos on the south end of town. If a employer does not want you, they will make sure you are not hired period. You can be God and invented trucking to paraphrase, but you wont be driving billy bob's box company if billy thinks you aint Him.

Savvy? =) Smile. Cheer up. Life is too short to be stressing about getting up in the morning for work or not. You should be up and cheerful either way.

It looks like that craiglist tip paid off. I'd love to be able to tell you which option is better. But I have no idea. All you gotta do is jump right in. Shoot for money. And shoot for free time with your important people. You will find it my friend.

i went with a guy at Hojnowski Transport today. drove a dump truck got two loads of blacktop and a load of crushed stone. not a bad time. i did most of the driving and i was with him for 6 hours. i am hoping to receive an official job offer soon. they have 5 or 6 dump truck and maybe 4 or 5 tractor trailers. they have floboy trailers that they use to haul salt in the winter (road salt) so i can stay working with them year round. they run 5-600 miles per day in the winter so there wont be any sitting around. the equipment is top notch for a small company. drivers are required to wash their trucks once a week. seems like a good place to work.

the dump truck was a really nice 2006 peterbuilt 379 with a real set of stacks. made a nice sound, allot better sounding then the silcened exhausts allot of the trucks have now, but nor excessively loud either. nice truck, no DEF required and no regen.

the trucks get repainted periodically and they all look like new. in the shop he has two very nice peterbuilt 389's that were purchased as glider kits. they have 550 cat engines in both of them.

Hojnowski Transport pays by the hour, and the milk hauler pays $160 per day. i think im better off by the hour. i used to work as a milk receiver and i know how long the trucks can sit without detention pay. the company collects it but doesnt always pass it on the driver unless your at a really good milk hauler.
