And a note on the tru bal thingys, shop used them on buddy's steers to mount wheels, fine and dandy except one tire had a high spot of about 1/16 " you could see as you spun it next to a block of wood. So for that wheel I had to undo the lug nuts and put the high spot at the top and let the wheel settle down to get a nice round spin with the least runout.

Well I've had my 3/4" Ring in-between my Drive Tires for 5 years and currently on my second set of Bridgestone M726EL's and I never had a Driveline problem or felt a vibration, so whatever it's doing in there, it's doing its job.

But can you prove that without it your tires would be messed up? You are running Bridgestones so you could get away without them on drives.

Seems you might be better off centering the drum and wheel and then have the tire trued. I've seen a video where they true up tires with a tool similar in concept to a regroover, they spin the tire and slowly draw in a hot blade of sorts and it shaves any high spots on the tire.

On the other hand, the tires footprint it flat to the ground so I don't know how much of a difference truing a tire would really make.

I've got 233k on a set of 726EL's, wheels weren't spin balanced and no other balancing system and, they are wearing nicely. Someone even commented the other day that they were wearing well.

Think I'm going to toss in some Dynabeads along with some True balance sleeves to see if it smooths the ride and cuts some heat in the tire.

That's true, if I had some Made in China tires, it would be a different story.

I haven't heard anyone talk about shaving tires in a lot of years so long I don't think you could find a place to do it.
It seems like at least 10 or 15 yrs since I've heard it. I've talked to a few though that mostly did their streers and had incredibly results extending the life of the tires.

I've never done it. I know guys who do it to brand new tires to true them up before even taking the first trip. No truck tire is perfectly round. You get what you pay for Chinese tires being the worst impossible to balance out of round junk you can buy. That said I understand why people buy them for certain applications. On a spread axle. Maybe offroad. But for typical application on closed tandems I view them as money flushed down the toilet. I'd actually take recaps over chinese.
