These have lots of potential if you can buy one with burned up transistors and you happen to know somebody with a curve tracer so it can be rebuilt correctly.

 

I don't know anything about Dave made amplifiers.

 

You don't need a C class to talk on SSB. Every amp I've ever had had a switch for SSB. Find a good Texas Star 350 High Drive or Texas Star 500. If you look on the buttons of a TS, and the words aren't worn off, you'll see a button that reads - "Delay" or "SSB".

 

the reason that it is there is to add a delay into the keying circuit of the amp to ensure the relay doesn't chatter when you key the mic up on SSB and talk. Talking on SSB is the only way to produce the power in the radio, it has no carrier.

 

There are a lot of Texas Star 667s out there. Folks break them by mis-using them. If you could find one of those and have it converted to a 500 you would have what you need also. The part that breaks is often the part that makes it a 667. A knowledgeable tech can do this easily enough. Probably a youtube video on it..........

They are easy to fix, only five things normally go wrong with them, one driver and four finals.
