But you still need to account for (and deduct from your 11 hour limit) the drive time:
The ELD simply does that for you.
FWIW, it can be 'cheated'. If you drive for less than 7 minutes, then manually select your previous duty status after stopping, the drive time will not be logged due to the 15 minute increment rule.Last edited: May 29, 2017
Reason for edit: Left out an important detail. -
Adjust your rates to compensate for this.
Right now, you can haul cheaper because you can (and do) run illegally. After the ELD mandate goes into effect, you will no longer have that advantage and the playing field will be level.spyder7723 Thanks this. -
To address the "invasion of privacy" statement. In all practical terms you gave up the right to privacy the moment you put commercial plates on the vehicle. It is NOT a private vehicle like a passenger car or rv.
windsmith Thanks this. -
No that's just bending over and letting the government dictate what i can do with MY stuff, and i will not do that. Sorry.....
This is a simple statement. My Truck. I use it for work. USE IT. its not dedicated. I also USE it for personal use.
The government gets to tell me when i can sleep, when i can drive, when i can eat when i"m working.
when i am on Personal use, they can stay the hell out of my business. they don't need to know where i am, when i am, what i'm doing or where im doing it, and im sorry, i'm sick and tired of the intrusion into my personal life by the government 1 step at a time.. Im not going to roll over and just say, OK you can have another piece of my life. because eventually they will have it all. -
What eld system can you use for 1 or 2 trucks max. A name of a reliable system that your using now that's not a waste of money?

I truly wish i could adjust my rates. but because there are so many idiots out here that will run their truck at a $1 a mile, the brokers will just find a cheaper truck and im out a load.
If only the truckers would ever realize the amount of power we hold.......... think about it, every single thing in ever single store that is used by every single person.....is moved by truck...
so if just for 48 hrs enough of us every got together and said NO, we want fair rate or no shipping, no moving.... Just think about what that could do the US economy in as little as 48 hrs??????
shippers would start to bend over backwards, brokers wouldn't know what to do. stores would stop. all hell would break lose......
BUT You will never get 5 truckers to agree on anything, so hence, we are the most powerful disorganized group in america. and we suffer every day for it........... We will never get fair rates because we can't agree on a #### thing. and it sucks! If we ever united as ONE we could dictate so much and gain so much in such a short period of time, but it will never happen and i don't think it could ever happen, and its a shame.. -
A system to do what? need a little info on what you what a system for? there are many choices

Sorry for that misplaced worded mess. Running low on sleep. In the past I've used peoplenet and quallcom but is there any name of an eld system that's fairly reasonable I can run out of my office while my drivers are on trucks. Also, a system I can control it completely with being on the road some. Basically a winner prize setup that isn't crap and waste of my money that should be around and still operable after all other companies competing for a place in this eld market bellies up and shuts the doors.

I'm sorry Spyder but i FULLY disagree. there was nothing on any paper that i ever signed that stated i had to give up my personal life or any aspect of it because i put commercial plates on my tractor.
I have commercial plates on my Pickup, but i didn't give up any personal rights with that>>>>
No, this is the government that came up with an idea from some idiot behind a desk, and although i still don't fully agree with the ELD mandate i can see some positive points too it, but as per the norm, it was not thought all the way through. it covered the 70-80% of company trucks, it did not have anything built in for Owner Operators who own their own trucks and also use their trucks for personal use. and it doesn't matter if i take my truck on a week long vacation, or i take it 100 miles down the road to my favor shop. ITS PERSONAL USE AND THE GOVERNMENT HAS NO BUSINESS TRACKING ME, TELLING ME A DARN THING, KNOWING ANYTHING. that's the point. Perhaps you have no issue with the government, NSA listening in on your conversations, or giving up your personal, freedom rights as a US Citizen, But i for one am not. I like, my freedom, my rights, my right to privacy, my right to freedom, and my right to use my truck for personal use with out being tracked. I'm not about to give the government another foothold that they can in turn work at to get more into my life>>> NO TAKE YOU
