i too agree. once on the highway, maintain the speed, move over if you can. the merging truck, was in the acceleration lane, yet held back a bit. that to me, would have signaled to hammer down in my lane.

the camera truck slowed down? on a highway? allowing cars to pass him?

    nah..nah...nah....

you maintain your speed. but this does not entirely change my mind, the merging truck is still guilty.

Of course the merging truck is at fault, but the camera truck caused all this. A likely scenario here, is the merging driver was distracted, phone call, shifting gears, whatever, coming around the ramp, at the last second, like a 4 wheeler, they check their mirror, holy crap, a truck next to me, now you got this "throttle/brake dance" who is doing what here? And I think the merging driver was angry, and WANTED to tap the camera truck. ( to me that was no collision, truth be known, these rookie drivers take mirrors off all the time.) Should have just been running the center lane at the speed limit. Let the cars deal with merging traffic.

It can also be ticketed under improper lane change. I know as I have had this happen, the driver that did it to me was ticked for improper lane change. The officer said it carried more of a "Fine" for his stupidity and would make insurance easier.

Maybe its also discretion of the officer ? TBH it don't matter at the end of the day the merging truck was at fault.

I agree that the merging van trailer was used as a blunt threat assault weapon to frighten prime into backing off.

If you can find a Officer to make that charge stick....

Nah, not all the blame. There's usually some to go around and many posts are less about assigning blame than they are about suggesting what might have been done to avoid a situation.

IMO Prime would have, or should have, seen this developing long before the video starts and could have easily prevented it from becoming what it did.

    Always love your posts!

I believe the 'Rift we're having is because we're having 2 different discussions here.
    1) we have some who are directly answering the poll.
    2) we have others, I fall into this one, who are discussing how this could have been avoided, regardless of who had right of way for the merge.

I wanted to see the video several seconds back when he first noticed the truck coming down the on-ramp. Some of these on ramps having such a limited point of view and a limited merge ramp thay they can be extremely hazardous and there is little you can do if you have to meet at the most inopportune time, without someone taking drastic measures is a lane change isnt viable

First of all the merging truck is at fault for the mirror however this is a proof that if the mandatory truck speed limit were to go into effect there would be a lot more of these kind of wrecks on top of worse ones now to the prime truck in the video I don't know what prime tells you people in training but what ever it is they are wrong you should have either sped up or slowed down enough to avoid the accident there fore in my eyes you both are at fault. Final judgement always comes from the driver prime trucks 58 mph therefore you know automatically that the other truck is indeed faster take ur foot off the throttle and tap the brake pedal to allow the drivers behind you know u are slowing down oh and another thing when there are three lanes prime stay the #### out of the middle lane you guys make traffic bottle neck ya onto both the left and right NOT SAFE AT ALL left side passing side right side suicide

In this scenario no one cares what the law is. We all know. When your the one with your front end ripped off and miss a week of work I guess having the "Law" on your side is better but I would prefer it to never happen in the first place.

Here's the thing. We all know how many idiots are out here. The goal is to keep YOUR truck clean. This concept is much easier than waiting for the law to sort it out.

Just a general observation here. People are getting dumber every day. There is not a one of us that can drive a hundred miles, no matter what you are driving, and not either had close calls ourselves, or seen others have them.
We all like to bellyache about the ignorant four wheelers. The four wheelers like to bellyache about the ignorant truckers. The bikers like to bellyache about the ignorant cagers.
And there's no one in any of the above, that haven't done ignorant things at one time or another. One of the problems, is the tremendous increase in population in the past fifty years or so. Outdated and substandard highway infrastructure is a direct result of this.
    WE'RE ALL DOOMED! :confused::D
