You have hit the nail on the head. Most of this whole uproar is about some one being butthurt that some one else is making more due to having an advantage.

If they spent half the time concentrating on how to improve their operation instead of worrying about some one else they could get so much more done

You get that dispatchers routinely lie to us about where the truck is when the load is booked, how many hours the driver has, and literally every other detail we need to know right? E logs are fine with me (not in the grand scheme of things, but it will cause chaos in the industry and I am pro chaos generally because it opens up new opportunities for me), but blaming us for not knowing how many hours you have is pretty unreasonable.

    Absolutely.
Focus on making yourself better, more productive; rather than trying to hold back anyone else.
Trucking is multi faceted: everybody doesn't have the same kind of operation and therefore time clocks don't work the same way for everybody. Like @ShooterK2 said.
I used to do something very different, but it gave me the same type of schedule. at weeks end; I'd still only have logged 50-55 hours total (m-f) recording all hours worked.

Trucking isn't the same job for everyone.
The playing field will never be even.

Restaraunts have all kinds of health codes to follow: some charge $8.50 for a meal; some charge $85.00 for a meal. Doesn't matter if they're both open 11 hours a day, one will offer a service that the other doesn't.

I never "give away" my time. If I had to set for a 10 hour break 15 minutes from home: that's giving away my time right there.

With ELDs the government will have no choice, but to change the exemption of truck drivers from the Fair Labor Standards Act (aka federal minimum wage law)
We sacrafice so much time from our families and are not compensated like everyone else for our overtime work. This is wage theft through regulation. The Elds show everything we do when working, ie fueling, pretrip, post trip, loading, driving, unloading and sleeper ( because we are still on the job away from home)
The bottom line is if a truck driver works over 40 hrs a week, he or she should be paid overtime like other workers!
I encourage everyone to contact a government official and ask them why trucking is considered an unskilled job and why we as truckers are exempt from the FLSA?

Personally, I believe the system is rigged and they want to control our wage because they deem us as stupid and illegitimate. They want other people in society that do less work, go home every night and have special privilages afforded to them to make more money.

No overtime pay is unheard of with local drivers! Some use a time clock some track their own time. I will tell people until I am blue in the face and even post a pay stub if I need to! Its 25 dollars per hour to drive locally and they are starved for drivers, never heard of any company not paying overtime (time and a half) after 40. I realize this is an owner operator thread. But, if all you guys are working for nickels and dimes and donating time you are driving down wages all the way to the top. The shippers will even get accustom to paying lower rates. Electronic logs will force people to demand more pay/compensation

I definitely think that Elogs will drive up rates slightly. I also think that it will force some of my customers to care a lot more about loading times as it will make their loads late. They may even stop ordering trucks when the product isn't ready yet. That would be a crazy development that has been a long time coming. Would definitely lower how much produce loads pay in dollars but greatly improve them in terms of time efficiency.

The worst part is they're not lying for the
Paid hours, they're lying to work more unpaid hours.
