in the grain hauling business there is even some exemptions that apply to commercial haulers. some people blurr that lines as well. like grain from farm to market is a exempt commodity, no mc number needed dot# might not be needed depending on the state. so you can haul grain commercially with no authority in some cases, but once that grain is taken from the feild to the elevator its no longer exempt you cant haul that same load from elevator to elevator its no longer a exempt commodity at that point.

Farmers do the same thing to the stone guys around here... Use their dumps for grain during harvest and then haul stone in the winter when not farming.. No numbers for anything.. They will get what that got coming some day

Farm to co-op, no you dont need authority but it has to be your product. Co-op to Co-op you need authority. It is not exempt at that point. The co-op owned truck can haul exempt co-op to co-op because they own the product at that time. You can not transport goods for hire without operating authority. -
Btw your farm insurance on semi trucks only has coverage from your farm to delivery point. Not your buddies farm, your farm. Have a lots of friends that farm and you can not explain this to them. I just stay quiet about it anymore and do my thing.
