Sad as it sounds, maybe they looked at the bennies for paying a 15 year employee, and looked for excuses to get a cheaper newbie.. Still it is extremely odd to fire someone flat out like that.. most employers with half a brain create paperwork in the form of warnings (signed by the employee) to back them up. I can guarentee that they have some kind of backup, and if they don't then there are people within the company who know better that will get him his job back.. of course then in the future they will start collecting the warnings they need...
Surely there is some kind of appeals process, within Werner.. Until recently I had never been fired from a job in my life.. and although not a trucking company, there was an avenue where I could appeal it.. In filing for unenjoyment my company lost their argument for reasoning of firing me.. I could have easily won an appeal with the company to get my job back, but was too Pi$$ed at them at this point... and this has led me to trucking.
My point is, that every avenue should be taken with Werner to appeal.. if it is just an issue that he no longer wants to work for them after this incident, then that is on him and it's best just to move on. The lawsuit thing may sound good, but more than likely the only one making any money out of it will be the lawyers.
Surely with 15 years experience, he can do some talking with new employers and get a better gig.
Werner is a good company

I am a woman who got my license thru a company that has since been sold and the owner passed away. I married the driver who I teamed with and am now currently taking care of my elderly motheer. Let me say that not a company works for some people and not for others. Every job is a learning experience. Even if you get fired from one, and still want to drive, take the experience with you, mind your p's and q's , and try not to repeat what caused that problem! Even if you can prove you were right and they were wrong!!! I always found that if I did my job the best I could , kept my personal business to myself, and gave respect to everyone to everyone I dealt with, whether they deserved it or not, even shippers, I had no problem. My husband who is 10yrs. older has finally realized I am not stuck up, after he has had several bad experiences since I came off the road with him and several jobs, because he wanted and tried to hard to fitin, only to have his personal info used against him, by other drivers and the co. Finally !!! He has learned his lesson, and has finally gotten into a smaller co. and will take these lessons with him. And no more lease purchase programs , a real check every week, no more starving. No more $0 on the old social security benefits for retirement. If your young and starting out and need experience tighten your belt and your and don't open your outh, ask what you need to learn your job, and even if you know your absolutely right, does not mean your superiors will seee it that way.Try to stick a job out at least a year before switching. If you no you can't then don't start it.

yes I know I need to check spelling like I said taking care of mom and back and forth taking care of her needs. Good luck every one and hope you find that company you want to stay with!!! Personally never met anyone who ever found their dream job driving, but found a company they could work with comfortly. Was a waitress and manager of a truck stop in Ill. before changing jobs , so knew kind of what I was infor before going into driving, from my drivers coming into the restaurant. Yes worked at the Old 76 in gurnee,Ill when it was called The Fireplace Restaurant and Bar for Yogi and Kussom. Was the Redhead with the attitude and temper that came out when I was pushed to far, and the bad marriage to the Army guy, for the older drivers who remember me. Found the relationship that works for me now, and am happy . Good luck to you all!!! And God Bless and Keep You All Safe!!!!

I'm looking at Werner as an upgrade from Swift - few questions.
1. As a new employee with 6 months OTR experience would I have to go through their training program or would I be considered "experienced"?
2. How does the electronic logging work?
3. How likely am I to be able to get home weekly or better? (This is the breaker, right here)
4. If I got accepted this week, would they probably be OK with me pushing back starting until November 8 or so? I have plans I can't ditch on. -

For the record, getting home weekly is not going to happen when you first sign on to most companies unless you are regional. I know that most dollar gen, and family dollar drivers do however get home weekly. But the trade off is slightly lower pay, and hard work as you unload and load.
I get home generally every 2 weeks myself -
any questions about werener. e-mail me and i will give u my phone number. almost a year and im a trainer.
