    How can someone log sleeper berth while driving a day cab? The only way a driver can log sleeper berth is if the vehicle is equipped with one as defined at 393.76 and the driver is in the sleeper. That's why there are 2 lines for rest on a log & not just 1. I find it remarkable that drivers who know so much fail to comprehend such a simple thing as what constitutes a legal rest period. Perhaps that's why there are far more drivers placed out of service for 11/14-hour and false log violations than any other reason. By the way, did you know that federal DOT officers have the right to look at satellite/Qualcom records & use them to match your logs when at your home office?

    When on a 10-hour rest you need not spend ANY time in the sleeper so long as you do not work for 10 continuous hours (line one) (this is how a driver in a day cab obtains a legal rest period); or you may sleep for 8 & do 2 more on line one while you eat & shower in the truck stop provided you have a sleeper berth as defined. As well if you are in a hotel/motel you are not in a sleeper are you! Further, if you have a day cab you can't use the split rule as you don't have a sleeper as defined.

    As far as making your log look right/good; for every way you falsify your log I can show you at least two ways of proving it

    I mentioned a day cab for those people here that state all they do is log sleeper to show how wrong that statement is.

    What about this scenerio? Start day driving at 07:30. Arrive at reciever at 17:00 and check in. Sleep from 21:30 to 00:45. Got reciever call and moved the truck to the dock from 00:45 to 01:00. Sleep from 01:00 to 05:00. Move truck from dock to parking lot from 05:00 to 05:15. Back to sleep at 05:15. When can I start a new 14 hour clock to drive to my next shipping appointment, 2 hours away, scheduled to load at or before 16:00?

    Reciever on day #2 is about 70 miles away.

    I'd do her like this. I laid this out sticking to the times you set. But time could of been saved on the drive to the receiver if you figure 350 miles at 54mph would be 6.5hrs and you could of came back to work at 0300 on the 2nd day. Keep in mind this is NOT complete at all its just to show you where id put my lines.
