I'm buying new. I hate dealing with other people's used junk even if it's a deal.
-
I wouldn't shy away from a used one if I was buying it from a reputable technician/shop.
-
That word "reputable" means different things to different people.

Taken, if you don't want to talk SSB, buy a good class C amp like Davemade, Fatboy, etc. They are hand built, have high quality copper clad boards hat are more forgiving than tin, operate at a higher efficiency than class ab1' use less amps to produce power, and have good input tuning. It's more power for your ,only. Just open up a lid on a davemade vs a palomar, Texas star, etc and you will see the difference.
-
I bought a a Texas star 500. Not sure how I'll like talking on SSB. But I figured for my first setup I would go for it. If I Wind up not being into ssb then I'll jump ship on the star and check out something else.

I've got to start proofreading these posts, this IPad sucks. Texas star is a good amp, I've owned a modulator, a dx 600, a 667. My brother in law owned a dx 350. 400 and 667. Never had a failure, kept the deadkey low, thick wire, good swrs and talked all over the country.

Right on. I live on the MD,PA line just south of York. Anyone have a suggestion as to where I should go to get my antenna tuned. I've heard there is a guy at the TA truck stop in Elkton MD. (Kenny) anyone know anything about him? -
I'd run at least 8 gauge wire to power that amp. You'll like it, it will do a good job for you.

To me it means somebody who I know is proficient in electronics specific to the CB/Ham world. The only amps I've bought from an individual, I bought really cheap and took them straight to the "proficient CB/Ham technician" to be checked out and repaired if needed.rabbiporkchop Thanks this.
