Yea, no BS there. I've only dealt with flatbeds in the military, mostly moving equipment. Wet cold chains are no fun and neither are greasy ones. Either your going to lose 5lbs tarping in the summer or lose the feeling in your hands and feet in the winter. None of the above sound like their worth what most companies wanna pay. Although one day I'd like to try my hand at coils, but sometimes I'm a glutton for punishment.

There's a need for all types of trailers and some parts of the year bring different types of demand. Flats can be broken down to subcategories too. You can pull a Curtainside or a Conestoga which saves you tarping but you can't haul long pipe loads or oversize loads.
It's all in what you want to do.
I prefer to run my flat with tarps, straps or chains, whatever it takes to make $$$$.
My favorite loads are pipe and steel plates. Pipe rarely requires a tarp or if it does, mainly pvc pipe requires a Smoke tarp which is a piece of cake. Plates are tarped with 4' drops...not a big deal but you can make good money.
The most work I have ever done was a load of RV tires. Being a "Monkey Man" is not my idea of securing loads.
