I drive 99% of the time with both hands on the wheel, upright in my seat. But rather than being a stick figure, which conjures images of tension, I am very relaxed.

My hands are aligned with my wrists, so I can avoid carpal tunnel syndrome. Vibrations off the steering wheel don't bother me.

My arms hang straight down, so I no longer get tension or excruciating pain in my shoulders or neck when fighting gusting broadside winds all day.

I'm upright, with the back of my seat almost vertical and the lumbar support inflated, so I no longer walk like a crippled old man to the truck stop.

Now I can drive for hours pain free.

The other bonus is I don't have to do anything different if conditions get slick. My HABIT is to hold the wheel loosely with relaxed arms, so "dancing with the ice demons" is just another level of fun.

I feel this subject ranks right along with Elog, and seat belts. Should be more of a personal preference. What works for 1 does not always work good for others.

And yes I said seat belts, we all have personal experiences that differ from others. I myself was in the backseat of a Chevy Chevette that nearly got ripped in half from a T-bone hit, a full size GMC van against a Chevette, not much challenge there lol. Dr. Told me if I had been wearing a seatbelt I more than likely, would have had more injuries than the busted lung, and bruised kidneys. But I know there are some situations that they do help too. I wear mine most of the time in my personal vehicle.

Make a habit of wearing your seat belt. I still have legs because I wore mine. Head on collision in '79. My legs were pinned between the seat and the wreckage in front of the seat. Without a seatbelt I would have gone through the windshield and left my lower legs behind.

I have been driving for almost 3-7 years. I usually use my right hand. I have a power steering so, it is easy to turn. When I first drive my truck I use to drive with two hands, than I got use to it I move to one hand on my steering wheel. I love my steering wheel. 34203982003_0c31781fc9_o.jpg

I got busted taking my first driving test by only having one hand on the wheel. My dad and brother both drove that way, so it was only natural. One hand on the wheel, the other draped across the shifter. Nice and relaxing.

So you have been OTR for your entire adult life, and you are at least in your 70's now.

    Impressive.
