This is true - but also, the more I think about it, the more I am starting to lay some of the blame on driver educations.. for 4-wheelers. One of the most egregious examples is the simple 2-second rule. The kids I've talked to around here tell me that they were taught that the 2-second rule applies to trucks, too. yeah.... there's something broken here.
Of course, this is all compounded by the "Me first" attitude

What's the two-second rule?
-
Ahhhh.....I think we may be onto something here. Or maybe I'm just on something.....
-
Seriously?
-
Oh crap. I guess I should be embarrassed?
Seriously, I don't know what the two-second rule is. -
The two-second rule is allowing a space of two seconds between you and the vehicle in front of you. Pick a marker and start counting when the lead car passes. If you pass the marker before you reach two seconds, you are too close and need to increase the gap.
Ducks Thanks this. -
LOL
And as soon as you do, another car sneaks in and you start all over againWorking Class Patriot, Joetro and dwayne Thank this. -
Thanks, Joetro! I've never heard that before! We were always taught, and I taught my children, to allow one car length per every 10 mph... and that's pretty much where I'm comfortable.
I wonder how that would play out in terms of timing? -
We were taught to use a minimum of 7 seconds in a truck...now just go ahead and practice this in LA traffic.....you may as well just put it in reverse sometimes.
Baack Thanks this. -
Can I play a little devil's advocate here? Understand, I do not tailgate big trucks, little trucks, cars, bikes... period.
Why is it considered unsafe to travel within a few carlengths behind a big truck? Logically thinking, a four-wheeler can stop a lot quicker than a truck. Personally, I feel safer knowing the trucker can see my little car... plus like having some open road in front of me, visually. But a truck won't stop nearly as quickly as an automobile.
(I figure I've already asked one stupid question, so I might as well get it out of my system and ask another one.
