Another rookie who thinks he knows it all.I think the previous posts commenting on your skills (or lack of) were right on.You need to find another occupation before you get yourself or someones family killed.YbeLegal, psanderson, northstarfire0693 and 2 others Thank this.

THAT may very well be the best written piece of satire I have ever read! And as all good comedy does, it has the ring of truth to it as well! Very, very well stated! And for the record, no, I do not walk on water. I am waiting to hear if my run in with a 4 wheeler is deemed preventable or not. As aftershock said, sometiimes things happen(passing on the right, despite my blinkers, and trailer trying to block the right lane, sheeesh) Again Aftershock, very nice job!

Since I have not used up my allowable accidents I would like to trade for whats behind the curtaing Monty!
How many do overs do you think you should get? -
The problem here might be the trainer, or instructor. But I think the problem is the driver. I have over 2 million miles without a accident of any kind. this driver should not be let behind the wheel of a class a truck again for any reason. He does not care about anything but himself and it wont take too awfly long for him to kill someone, maybe your wife or child. 1 accident in 17,000 miles is bad enough, but 3 and he thinks the employer is a fault... maybe he has a physical problem or a depth perception problem, really does not matter, he does not belong behind the wheel of 80,000 lbs rolling down the highway. There is no excuse for hitting a parked car, none..
MGASSEL Thanks this. -
Powder Joints, you should count your blessings that the good Lord made you so perfect and so unlike the rest of us imperfect humans. Are you saying that you have never had a accident or that it has been over 2 million miles since your last accident? What about those two or three minor incidents that was not reported? My last accident was in 1979 and my last ticket was in 1983. Sorry that I'm not perfect. Have a wonderful accident free career.

I think the point regarding the fact that this person had not 1 but 3 accidents in his first 17,000 miles is very important. 2 million miles without an accident is nothing to sneeze at. Your record looks pretty darn good too since it has been so long since you had anything happen either. You both sound perfect enough. At least it shows you both are very safe drivers that know what you are doing.

Tell you what folks, to danc694u, I sincerely apologize because you and several others have all been right. It was a matter of pride and impatience because of that pride. I had already gotten out and looked so much and was taking so long that I was embarrassed to keep doing it. Therefore, I paid the ultimate price. I am very pissed, but only at myself because I did this to myself. What makes it so much worse is that I honestly enjoyed the job....all the way down to the paperwork. But the biggest charge was just getting out there and seeing the countryside. As I think back, yes, all of my accidents were indeed preventable. While they did not happen on the road, I can think of a few near misses that WERE on the road. After a long self-assessment, I agree that I don't belong out there though it breaks my heart to say it. I just turned 56 and over the last few years have noticed that it's very hard for me to stay focused....not that age has anything to do with it because there are many good drivers who don't have that problem.
I worked for 9 years in the USAF and then had a 21-year career with a very well known and large corporation where I actually did very well. They offered me early retirement just as if I was 65 when I was 49 so I took it. I swore I would never go back to a desk job but that may just be where I belong.
Even though I was out there for just a short time, I miss the hell out of it. The truck stops, the customers, the folks that worked at the truck stops, my dispatchers and of course, the truckers. I just need to put this behind me and move on but I will take many good memories with me.
Any way guys, I want to thank ALL of you for helping me to realize my fault of pride because that's what it boils down to, coupled with impatience and a lack of being able to properly focus. I wish you all the absolute best.Last edited: Oct 28, 2008
MountainMama, AZSunshine and Baack Thank this. -
Heck of a post there darlin! I know all about it being in the blood. Perhaps think about looking for something that keeps you connected with the industry even if you're not driving. I'm working on that right now myself, because I can't drive anymore, and not by choice.

I scraped a fender on a curb during a U-turn to avoid getting stuck in a bad residential neighborhood and because of violating that policy crap of no U-turns some of the larger companies have I am finding it hard to get a trucking job and THAT WAS MY ONLY INCIDENT and you mean to tell me you think its a crime no one wants someone like you behind the wheel of their trucks because they hit everything in creation I had 1 incident that I was too stupid to just buff out on my own instead I reported it and its cost me my career for the last 2 years and I dont even remotely know what to do to get back in the industry.
