Been with my company for a couple months and I really like it, except.... They don't use electronic logs yet which I used at my last company (Love that Qualcom). Most of the other drivers here cheat on their logs. Now the dispatcher's job is to get all the loads delivered, but after I work 12+ hours in a day they get upset when I only have a couple hours left. They're used to drivers telling them that they have 8 hours or so left after they work 12+.
Now I'm a long time trucker (started in 1977) and I admit that I used to cheat on my logs too. Once drove 4,500 miles in 4 days. If you didn't back then you would get fired. However in 1990 I fell asleep at the wheel and just missed a building by inches. Told my boss that I would never cheat again (I never did) and they fired me on the spot. The next company fired me in a week because of this too. They said I would have made the appointment if I drove 20 hours straight.
So here is an honest truck driver that never wins. Well I guess that one day soon I'll be replaced by a robot that can operate 24/7 and keep the dispatchers thrilled.
An honest driver never wins

Hang on driver. Six more months and all these
Outlaw companies and owner/ operators are
Gonna change there ways or disappear.
By this time next year your gonna see a bunch
Of trucks for sale sitting in front yards all over the place.
In the meantime don't take any jobs on paper logs.
You should know there gonna expect you to cheat.
That's just the way it is.Badmon, JReding, Call_Me_The_Breeze and 8 others Thank this. -
I've had to use paper logs a few times in the last year or so when my truck is in the shop and I am in a loaner without Peoplenet. My dispatcher (who drove for 35 years and is very old school) would get all excited and try to run me into the ground. I'd do a 14 hour day, then he would put another load on me that wasn't possible... legally, anyway, and just say "you can make it work, can't you?" Nope. Sorry. Homey don't play that game.
I was on paper logs many years ago and did cheat them. I once drove from Tennessee to Colorado without stopping because it was my home time and I wanted to get back. Would I do it again? Absolutely not. If the company doesn't like that answer then they can pound sand.Midnightrider909, driverdriver, bzinger and 5 others Thank this. -
Well I'm an O/O and run paper logs. Don't cheat because I don't have too, or need to. There are too many repercussions if something were to happen. This is how I support my family. I sure as hell won't jeopardize that

Got to find the honest companies. They exist, and they are far more common than you might think.

The mandatory elog thing is just there to put a lot of drivers out of business. There is definately a hidden agenda with elogs and the government. I dont know maybe the rich government workers have a lot of tech stocks and theyre in cahoots with the big OTR companies. I mean those otr companies do give the rich government a lot of money in taxes.

And to think that on paper logs, I'd get in hot water if I did go over 14... ahhh, the life!

Spoke with the owner and he said they don't mind the drivers cheating as it makes the company a lot more money.
But then so does stealing.
When a driver is killed and/or the truck is totaled because of this, they will see that the extra money is not worth it.
Western Flyer that was funny what you said about all the trucks for sale. All those older tractor drivers will finally retire their tractors and themselves. Spoke with a 70 year old friend. He said the day e-logs comes out, he will retire.
He says that 10 hours is too long so he cuts it in half.
I like driving, but he needs a life.noluck and Western flyer Thank this. -
OP was working for the wrong companies. Honest drivers DO win at a GOOD outfit.
KANSAS TRANSIT, rank, mp4694330 and 9 others Thank this. -
I'm waiting to see what all the drivers and companies do when they have to run legal, or will they find away around the ELDs or hack. Some say they will just quit or claim someone will find a hack.
