I also got my license in 1985 and then let it expire in 1990. I drove OTR for 6 or 8 months hauling cars in an enclosed trailer. I ran team in 48 states with a different partner every week or so, interesting to say the least. I got my CDL back in 2006 by taking a refresher course, only problem was I didn't realize the companies want you right out of school and also to have at least 160 hrs of school to boot. The company that I worked for payed for my school so it wasn't to bad, at least I got my license back. I guess I will have to go through another school in order to get on with a company, I will find out on wednesday if I'm going to have to pay for it out of my own pocket. This will be the fourth school I've been through if I should choose to go. Back in 1985 I went through IITR to get my license, I got hired by Ryder right out of school and they put me through their driver training course which also included load training, then in 06 I went through the refresher course and now will probably have to go again. Oh well that's the way things go.
Good luck on your road test, sounds like your getting plenty of drive time.

Wild Bill I went to a state tech school. They did an evening refresher course.

I took the full class. I was glad I did. The WIA paid for my school, and paid for some of my gas to go back and forth.

They would pay for a 3 week school too. It was more money for the 3 week school.

I just don't like driving for a company that sounds like a "hot dog"...

    Sorry.... I had to...

Grapevines not that bad lol its out in my backyard but i still see so many truckers burn up their brakes on it, oh well thinking about coming on to swift and training my friend who wants to get into trucking but not sure, wanna make money while out there. Used to work for CRST and Werner. Never made money with CRST did with Werner but i did a stupid move and made a u turn. Oh well lesson learned.

Rug Trucker, I see your note about getting pre hires, I was just wondering did you get your pre hires before or after starting school ?

During school. I think you can get them before if you know your graduatation date. Hold on to them until the last minute. Maybe space the dates a week apart. If you got to orientation and one company dumps you you can go easily to the next one! I had 3 prehires. I lost one with Werner because my state had my MVR wrong. I fixed it and they still denied me. It maybe the reason I didn't get on with Crete. Crete told me it was because I had been fired at my last job. So they may have never ran my MVR. I have read here that Werner doesn't do a criminal check until you show up for orientation...........then boot you.
