I've only backed in Blindside in one truck stop, that was the pilot in portersville pa. Only reason I did was because it was the last spot available, and if I'd had moved someone else would've taken it. Thankfully I had a spotter. I was in the red 379 with a 290in wheelbase. It was not fun, took about 20 minutes and a lot of complaining from others.

i was athe T/A in Bloomsbury, NJ, many, many years ago. i was parked near the exit of the truck stop. a dumb Schneider driver backed up, and yes, into my trailer. i was in my bunk, resting. i was also wearing my pants.

i got up, and saw him leaving. i put on my running shoes (funny they call them that) and i took feet after him, carrying my ball peen hammer.

i had to cut through the parking lot, to get him coming around. i nailed his driver side door with that hammer.

yelled at him he hit my truck, all he could say was, "i diiiid...?????

he was blind siding as well, from the exit.

he drove around the lot and somehow amazingly, he parked his truck. I CALLED his company, told them what happened. the butt chewing he got was horrendous.

my company ended up getting about $4,000 for damages.

i could care less what happened to the Schneider driver, after i said to the safety dept he "hit and run"....

so you see, ball peen hammers, come in handy...

as well as having your pants on, and running shoes nearby...lol

It happened again! Less than 24 hours later, at the customer yard. I'm waiting on lab results. Young driver comes in with an iso and is told to park next to me. It's tight quarters. He starts backing and oversteers so now he can't see me. Almost hit the hood... I had to move aside to avoid a boo-boo. GET OUT AND LOOK! I'm jinxed...

I don't care whether it's at a truck stop or one of the difficult places I deliver to, I get out and look. One time. Twenty times Whatever it takes. I'm not hitting anything. Period.
