I couldn't allow the video due to the language in the title.

Anyhow, I'll admit the attempt at humor is a refreshing change coming from you. That said, let's not engage in a contest of the measuring of genitalia. Please...?

Why do you tolerate that? I'd have a new dispatcher for my trucks within a week.

Most smartphones, (especially newer ones) have a few tools available to deal with this, the most basic of which is the ability to set a scheduled "down time" to where the phone only rings for contacts YOU can set by "starring" them in your contacts list. Ringtones and text notifications only work for starred contacts during that time.

For any average call, you can have your ringtone set to silent. For some people I don't always feel like dealing with, I have a custom ringtone for with three simple, soft rings that are just enough that you're aware the phone is ringing, but easy to ignore, and won't wake you. I set a more distinct ringtone for contacts I'm more inclined to talk to.

Another nice feature most newer smartphones have is the ability to consolidate certain contacts into a group, giving that group a custom ringtone (much easier than setting an individual ringtone for each contact). This makes it much easier to know from the ringtone whether it's someone you actually want to talk to. You still have the option to set one contact or another with a less obtrusive tone.

You can set a non-obtrusive tone (or silence) as your text notification tone as well. If it's audible, you'll know a message came, but still don't have to respond. I've also created my own custom notification tones that can't be missed for things that demand attention. Can't seem to upload them here, so if anyone is interested, I can email you any such notification or ringtones I've created, just PM me.

This should work for most people, but with telemarketers now allowed to call cell phones, it's not always enough. You might have thirty missed calls or unread texts, with only five or so that are important. So if you need something better, there is a solution for all of this... It's called a call ignore app... I use this one... The developer has several different versions available.
    Call Blocker.JPG
It is pretty customizable, especially if you get the full paid version. You can set it to ignore specific numbers on a schedule or completely. (NOTE: CALLS MAY STILL GO TO VOICEMAIL, THEY JUST WON'T ACTUALLY RING THE PHONE) Most unwanted calls won't leave a voicemail. Then again, you could always disable your voicemail too. LOL. I think Vlad Lee, the developer, offers another app that actually blocks completely, but this works for me.

It also can block texts on a case-by-case basis, but will play notification tones for any and all texts not blocked. In my case, I am currently working for an app-based food delivery business that uses text as part of their dispatch process, and obviously I need these texts to demand attention with a very loud tone. But others I either want a fairly quiet tone, or silence/block altogether. Since the Call Blocker is not that flexible with SMS, I turn off its SMS blocker and use another app, CleanInBox SMS Blocker, in conjunction with it. Works great for my purposes.

Together, the two apps allow me to set one number or another to text only or call only, and still allows me to cherry-pick notification tones (or silence) for this number or that number. Best of both worlds. The full version, CallBlocker Pro, may be able to do this by itself, but the base version can't. The basic one will probably work for most folks though.

Truthfully, I don't really care for texting, but some people you're just better off that way. (Like those who spend ten minutes talking in circles to say what could have been said in two minutes). The two apps together work like a charm for me. I use Android, but if these particular apps aren't available for iPhone, I'm sure something similar is. You're welcome... :)

PWEEZE?! I need a 34 anyway... LOL... That kinda reminds me of a dispatcher that's pi--ed off at you for refusing a load and wants to "put you in the corner" for 34 hours.

Texting is a joy. But having a good phone with apps that allow YOU to toss spammers etc who call and text is even better.

What I actually do with my prepaid is leave the phone open in a text converstation mode with someone. It's usually 24/7 that way. Because of android's system behavior anyone calling causes the phone not to ring etc. When set on silent. Literally it sits there nice and quiet. And there is airplane mode if I wanted to ignore dispatchers for 9 hours or so in the berth. I know dispatchers hate hate hate it... but sorry, what part of off duty or sleeper don't you understand. Be thankful that the QC is collecting your messages boss... and not on forced bricked silent by turning off ignition key...

Decades ago when I first got a cell with that old fashioned dual mode that could barely text and had voice anywhere in the USA, dispatchers joyfully buried me in it. call call and more call at 70 mph or whatever. Are you there yet. 34 miles later, ring you there yet? 67 to go.. what part of your dam computers and QC tracking dont you understand?

I thought about tossing it. Almost did near Limon. My favorite no where.... what saved me was a 10.00 dvd from staples with ALL US based business phone numbers. Wanna call traffic manager of a reciever who NEVER ever gives out his precious number to any grubby driver....

    Ring.

    Traffic.

Hello, what are your directions to your dock?

WUT?! &^%$# drivers do NOT get this number WHO gave you MY number?

    Staples.

HUH? *Explodes as the two plus two clicks in.

So much for directions. Enter rand mc Nally trip routing with own GPS with private addresses of shippers and recievers. Follow DOT.... nice moving Dot on interstate... presto. there is the dock.

Trucking is supposed to be a joy. Not battle.
