I sent the Facebook page fine tune a message thinking it was rabbi and got a response saying he doesn't work on regular radios.

 

Yeah, new customers he does new exports only. He will do old stuff and "regular radios" (cobra 29 etc) for people he knows. And yeah, Rabbi =/= Mark.

Will Ray go over my whole setup and get it right or will he just take care of my radio? I've heard crappy things about channel 5. Didn't know someone else was close other than the place off i40 headed towards Nashville around exit 67 I believe

 

I have to add, he has to approve you in order for you to grace his shop with a radio for him to put his magic touch on, it is like the Soup Nazi.

A reputable shop/tech to me, and this applies to me only it is not the gospel, is one that will perform a clean alignment per manufacture service manual without any modifications ( adding or eliminating components) will have thorough knowledge of mobile antenna theory and install ( mobile is all Im concerned with) and will conduct business professionally and fair with reasonable prices. As far as distances acheived in transmit and receive miles I guess the radio and antenna will perform to its design limits.

 

And didnt mean to imply that Ridgelines advice is the only advice worth reading, thats not fair, there is of course numerous well knowledgeable members on this forum that have a wealth of wisdom and experience to share.

 

I didn't take it that way and I can add somethings to balance out the complex that some think is needed here.

However here is what I think is important about techs.

Most of the techs I know are made up of one of two types of people, one who will do good work, will not share a thing without you paying them for it and will act as if they are the best in the world.

Then you have the tech who knows what they are talking about, does good work and will not hold back on suggestions or knowledge and not afraid of saying to a customer " ... well I could sell you this but I don't want to, it won't help you but ...".

 

Ray is really good, known him for about 25 years. He will help you with everything from start to finish. BE SURE you do not get his shop confused with Channel 5.

 

Ray is good. I've recommended him several times on here. He is the only one in my area that the late Russel Clift, AB7IF, approved of.....that will mean something to some of you, some of you it won't. FWIW.
