Let me start by saying I'm still in "school"
to get my CDL class A and I'll be going for my test within the next few weeks. I've always wanted to be a "trucker" since the day's of BJ and the Bear (I know it's sad) with that fancy cabover of his with that lady "stacks" with the big #####, and the day's Night Rider with that nice Firebird driving into the back of the "Big Rig" going 70 mph. I was a lucky kid growing up and I got to travel the lower 48 in an old Ford Van with school bus seats bolted to the floor. We got to truly see America and I was wondering if any of you guy's stop to gather your thoughts while looking at say Mount Rushmore? Do you really stop for a few minutes and say to yourself "#### I'm lucky"? I'm just wondering how you go about your daily lives looking at the beauty this great country has to offer and do you , if you can stop and just say "wow"?

I love to, when offered the time, stop and take in things that I'd probably never get to see otherwise. I used to have an extensive photo collection of lots of things I'd seen in my travels of the 48. Unfortunately a recent hard drive crash caused me to lose the majority of them.

I'd like to add, however, that a lot of my "man I've got a great job" moments are merely thoughts that cross my mind as I'm driving on past whatever beauty of this great country that I've just witnessed. First and foremost I'm out here to make money. The scenery and sites are just an added bonus when the time to take them in is afforded.

I wish I would stop more often than I do. You have a great point, we as truckers get to expirence all the awesome stuff that this great country has to offer. You have sure opened my eyes more than what they were on what we have the advantage of seeing. And for that thanks. But I do like the other guy said, I carry my digital camera and take pictures of all the stuff I really like.

My hubby takes pics when he can. He has called me from the road a couple of times from places he's been driving through just to tell me about them. He called me once from the Black Hills, and told me 'I can really understand why the indians fought so hard over this area. It's awesome!'.

The first year or so is the best! But, after that alot of the things go somewhat unnoticed. Especially when having a bad day or in a hurry. You really have to "force youself" to take in the scenery and relax.

Very rarely you get time to stop and enjoy places... When you do get time to stop it is in the middle of WY or NE places in the middle of nowhere... Its not all glamorous as they try to make it out to be.. Most places don't even allow trucks to park.. So, if it is not a matter of time it is the fact you have a truck.... And that includes bobtail... They don't want them around as well... that means they don't you as a trucker around...
