I could see their concern regarding the hill and 11% grade. I have hauled 135K up 10% grade on a 7 axle without difficulty, but I have no experience using a jeep and do not know at what point you would start to loose traction on pavement. I'm certainly not saying that you would have problems, just that it is a valid concern in my mind.

We work with engineers often in our line of work. The really good ones listen carefully to comments and concerns that we have on their design, and approach things from the standpoint that just because there is an engineers stamp on it doesn't necessarily mean it will work.

I was also concerned about the grade. It was fairly short though with good pavement and dry weather.

I have no doubt that I could make it past the 11%. I wouldn't want to do it every day but the truck should be able to pull it.

My bigger concern is I run a 7 speed Allison. I was mostly concerned with 1st gear actually being able to hold and not just start slipping the torque converter and coming to a stop.

The guy that originally owned my trailer runs a truck with a similar setup to me except he has 4.56 rears instead of the 4.10s that I have. He's pulled 240K up 8-9% before using the same engine and trans setup.

I think that somebody high up on the project has had a problem with a different job in the past and now was concerned. I understand their concern. If something happens to that piece they are looking at months of downtime because a new one would have to be built from scratch.
