That logic says because lots of cr england thermo king units are constantly breaking down it musty mean all reefer units break down constantly. Unless you know exactly what their tire maintenance procedure was and what supplier they got caps from, then you really cant cone to any logical conclusions from some random company. This is what my experience had been, i can run continental recaps on my spread axle trailer grossing up to 92k lbs in the hot heat of the southeast summers and have absolutely no issues with them. But i take tire maintenance seriously and do more than just kick the tires once a week. Not saying you don't, but we all know the average company driver doesn't stick their tires every pre trip.

I think Love's is starting their own recap tires and a lifetime warranty, I believe the trailer tires were $220.

Agree with you 100% on recaps. If a person is staying up on maintaining their virgin tires and running proper/equal air pressures all the time, avoiding curbing tires like the plague no matter what, then those casings will make excellent retreads. The same maintenence routines must be followed with the retreads. And you will never blow a tire. The problem with tires is most drivers neglect and abuse them.

I had at one time never had a blow out in 6 years of running my equipment. 3-1/2 years ago I had a set of 8 drive tires, that I had owned since new, recapped. They did awesome I got another 150,000 out of those tires. However, I got lax on air pressures last spring.

By summer's end last year 2 had popped and a 3rd was about to from a bulge in the sidewall but I caught that and swapped a spare on it before it did. I actually caught bulges in the sidewall of the 2 that popped the day each blew out. These blowouts were 100% my fault. That last 6 months of those tires I let the air pressures go and was running lots of heavy 75mph and 75mph + speeds. Those tires popped from my abuse.

But I did get my money's worth out of them 500,000 miles on that set of tires. Caps are a great money saver. It's crazy to make blanket statements about them. Mine cost .01 cent a mile over their usable life from virgin to recap. That cost would have been less had I not spent $700 on 2 used tires out there on the road. A cent a mile tire cost is good. Anything under that is great. I could have been under it but from my own laziness I wasn't. Those caps failing were 100% my fault from abuse plain and simple.

The only reason i stopped running them is i just don't run very many miles so they get older than I'm comfortable with. Last month i bought 4 new drive tires. The 4 i replaced were made in 09. I just wasnt comfy capping an 8 year old tire.

Over here at the tire shop I like in town. Getting the remaining two caps off, two drive tires flipped around on the rim, and there a couple seals on the trailer hubs leaking slightly. I wanted to do this Saturday but the place I delivered to took forever.

I had to wait on police yesterday. I was slowing down for traffic entering a work zone that was crawling. I had my flashers on as a warning, this other car was coming up on me really fast, and without touching the brakes they passed me and rear ended the car in the other lane. They both went flying into the median and pieces from their cars went flying all over my truck. Both people were fine, just in a lot of pain. I gave a brief statement to the officer and went on my way.

It was crazy. I thought they were going to hit me too but on impact, they both went into the median instead of into my truck. It was a several mile long backup and the car that did it was completely unaware, didn't even touch the brakes. I had high blood pressure the rest of the day after that.

So far so good, been running my tail off. Being a leased to owner op was easy compared to this. There is no shortage of loads to keep you busy, even with my MC being new and limiting my options. By Tuesday I'll be at 2.15 a mile on all miles and almost 6000 miles for the month. I had the first 3 days off dealing with my tires.
Couple of things came up in the meantime with my insurance that I got cleared up. I was setup for auto pay but it appears they didn't get the form. Wanted to charge me fees and everything else. I threw down and was able to get someone that matters to clear it all up.

Good luck to you. Wish I could help, but I only hauled reefer for a little bit as a company driver.

This wasn't my intention but Ohio seems to be my good luck State. I just hooked my self up through Monday and I'm pretty excited about it. Got a 3 stop load of milk out of Ohio with a final in Edison, NJ that pays stupid money, a short run from nearby to where I'm picking up that pays 500 bucks for a total of 150 miles and only 6 pallets with a straight through delivery, and delivers to the same place my next load picks up back to Arkansas. I have to get back to deposit a bunch of checks and take care of business there for a day and hit the road again. The load to Arkansas is a cheap one, I'll admit, but my money on the easy short hop right to their door sweetens the deal.

I took a 6 stopper out of Ohio the other day that also paid stupid money ending way out in Pocomoke City, MD. Grabbed a load of chicken out of Delaware of all places and came right back to Ohio for decent money. The other 5 stops on that one came off around Baltimore and one in D.C.
