Great article. i'm curious to hear from you all what do you think current wages for truck drivers should be in 2017?
And if your the one driving that red Volvo unattended at the fuel island please move it!

Article ain't bad. Wish they went to several truck stops instead of just one Petro to talk to drivers.

Decent article . Simple solution. Cents pre mile has to go away. Percentage or hourly should be the only pay schedules.

We already kind of do get that type of pay. I mean, a load has x miles they're paying you for. You're limited by law as how fast you can get it there. You're only making that set income. In my case, they pay zip to zip so I don't get all the miles most of the time... This just being a subpar form of percentage pay. Of course the more miles the more pay, but you're just getting a set amount to run those miles.
A 2,000 mile ld at 40cpm will pay you 800. That's our salary for that load lol. It's just funny how we have a percentage based pay but the daddy government limit us by law on how much we can perform... This hole game is rigged...sevenmph and Highway_Executive Thank this. -
I've never worked for percentage pay. But I have worked hourly. Never say never but I can't see me going back to cents per mile.

I miss hourly when I worked in the oilfield. Right now, waiting to unload while on my 10... Not getting sleep or making money... Driving 230 miles after I'm done here only to sit and wait till tomorrow for 2 deliveries... Then probably wait till Wednesday to get reloaded... So tired of this bs lol. Spent 16 hours waiting to get this load I'm on, before that I spent 6 hours waiting to unload the previous one.... So much fun

When I was OTR, it would have really helped to have 2 days off per week. That's staying out 4 weeks at at a time. I could have done with less money and more personal time. It is really helpful to get a hotel once a week and get away from the truck.
I once had a job where I could do this. I would always get a hotel as far away from trucks and truck stops as possible even if it meant taking a cab across town. Yes, all costly, but actually enjoyed the job back then.
