How do you know that? I might have missed it but I didn't see the O/p post anything resembling their cost of operation!!
-

It's simple math and the true cost of ownership. You'll make a driver's wage, but you'll not have any sort of profit margin to grow a business.SL3406 Thanks this.

It's simple math if you know the operating cost. My cost might be $1.15 and yours might be $0.90. I would barely make drivers wage and you would make drivers wage plus a decent profitK Wopper906 and x1Heavy Thank this.

Once again, thanks for all of the responses. There have been good points made all around. You've all given me a ton to think about and a couple of new angles to look at it from. I posed this as a way to get a general handle on what the prevailing wisdom would be just for the driving side of the equation.
I already have arrangements in place for the downtime, lodging, food etc. as I'd be working this trade show anyway. I'm just trying to get a bigger piece of this deal and not price myself out of what could be a recurring gig with a customer that I'm already very familiar with. We've had other in-house people run this before and I'm hoping they'll give it to me to run, but under my own flag. Remember, I currently work for this company, just not as a driver.
By the way, I think Dune-T has it right about where I really need it to be. I know I mentioned 75-8500 earlier, but that's where I expect them to try to be. However, 9500 to 11000 gives me enough to handle my expenses and pay myself a solid wage. This gig is still a couple months down the road, and a thousand things will change between now and then. I'll update if and when I get it. Thanks again for all of the input. -
There is no way your true cost are 1.15. Not under your own authority.spyder7723, Ruthless and barnmonkey Thank this.

A minor note is be aware that all that time you are working the show has to be on-duty. The hos requirements state, for non-driving jobs, all compensated time must be on-duty. Not a huge deal, but be sure to add the required break into how many days it will take to do the run.Razorwyr Thanks this.

I beg to differ on this......

Differ all you want. It's not possible. Even if you try to say you have no truck payment. You still need to set aside money for one. That truck won't last for ever. If you pay yourself .50 cpm your actual cost is around .70 cpm. Unless you're are not paying payroll tax on yourself and you are not setting anything aside for insurance and retirement. (Which you need too).
On a 100k year.
Truck payment. .10 cpm
Driver pay. .70 cpm
Maintenance. .15 cpm
Insurance. .08 cpm
Tags. .02 cpm
2290, ifta, etc. .02 cpm
Fuel. .45 cpm
Total 1.52 cpm
There are still a few things left out. But you get my point. Just driver cost and fuel are 1.15.SL3406, x1Heavy, DUNE-T and 1 other person Thank this.
