It's a different animal than van OTR. However they do have drivers that go to what ever terminal needs help and stay for 30 days. They are paid more, not sure how much more. You should calll the terminal you may want to run out of and ask them the specifics. I am an owner op and am not sure about all the specifics of the company drivers. I do know most are happy with their jobs and that says something for a truck driver to be happy.

 

It seems to me its not worth 300 hundred bucks more when you can haul no touch freight for 1500 per week. With zero liability,Most companies consider you a contractor,i dont know about h&a.

 

I'm not sure what your referring to with $300 more a week. Maybe company driver pay, I don't know since it doesn't apply to me. The person who asked the question was inquiring about a company job and I gave him the info I had since no company driver gave him any info.

The company drivers drive a company truck and are employees and receive benefits like most good companies offer, they are not contractors.

The owner operators own their rig and are leased to the company and are not employees they are a contractor. They receive a percentage of the freight and all the fuel surcharge. Very simple concept used at many companies.

 

Do you have to report to the terminal everyday or are you allowed to take the truck home

 

Many drivers park near their home. You would try to run loads that direction so you don't have to go out of route to get home.
