Brake checking isn't the worse thing you can do, TAILGATING is the worse thing you can do.
That person thinks he's gonna get that truck in front of him to speed up. WRONG.
It is by far one of the worst things you can do on the road driving a 70' truck, hauling between 50 to 80,000 lbs or more.
You can't see past the truck you're tailgating, so if he has to make a sudden stop, a course correction, or some other move because some idiot in a four Wheeler decides to be stupid, maybe a large piece of debris in the road, some stupid trucker on the shoulder pulls out in front of him, the person tailgating only has two options, hit the truck or ditch his truck.
I absolutely hate tailgaters.
My rules gives you 3 chances.
1. I'll slow down enough to force you to so pass me, because I'm never in a hurry.
2. If you don't back off or pass me, the next time is a gentle tap on the brakes. Just enough to flash my brake lights a couple of times so you get the message.
3. If that doesn't work, I'll flash my load lights at you, a little brighter. Couple of quick flashes usually does the trick.
If after giving you several gentle wake up calls to get you to correct your dangerous behavior and you still want to be a jerk, then you're going to be making 3 phone calls.
1. Call your customer to tell them you're going to be late with their load, or maybe not at all.
2. Call your company and tell them to send a wrecker to pull your xxxx out of the ditch I just put you in while you try to explain to them your ignorant behavior.
3. Call the insurance company and explain to them why your truck, your trailer, and your load are on their side on the highway.
So BACK OFF, PASS ME, OR CALL A F#%×£#G WRECKER. -

Not that I would ever do it but if they arent passing you could use your turn signal to "wake them up". 98% of the time they speed up. 97% of the time they will then pull in front of you and slow down. But blinker fluid is cheap and you can hold a ton of it so why not?

It isn't worth the trouble either, IMO.Bob Dobalina and G13Tomcat Thank this.

That's no good they taught us to just let those people pass you up not do something like break check them and cause an accident.
Bob Dobalina Thanks this. -
The background to this incident is that he passed me 6 miles earlier, coming out of the construction heading west out of Columbus on 70. I flashed him over when he passed, but he just continued to ride the left lane with no traffic up ahead. I was in the middle lane passing a truck at the time. When I was clear, I signaled, that driver flashed me over, and I "thanked" him with my markers (you can see that in the fender mirror reflection). As soon as I got over, the covered wagon in the left lane did his brake check with no thought of what might be the unintended consequences. Thank God there was nobody around and I could miss the car.
I don't want to call out the company, because they are a good company with a great reputation and a good bunch of drivers. I happen to know some of them. And I happen to know the safety man, because I used to work there. (Enough said)
