    Greetings.

I found a great deal on a 2014 Prostar maxxforce 13 450 hp loaded. Can't find anything wrong with it. Perfect condition all factory updates and recalls are complete. Not a scratch. 200k miles.

I hear you regulars saying search search search and you will find why it's a great deal.

So I searched all over and can't find anything on the 2014 or most of the 2013 model maxxforce. The design was changed prior to 2013. I guess they added Def instead of all egr valve system?

Any reason not to pursue a purchase of one of these newer Maxxforce equipped trucks?

Looking for a newer truck that doesn't drive like an old truck. Mostly regional private haul agriculture loads. Light to medium weight.

For the same money most likely be able to find a 99-2007 with inframe freightliner, volvo or international. Found a couple volvo 1999-2003 models with detroit s60 for a few thousand less than the international like 15 or 18k.

Any suggestions? Any of you driving a newer International 2014? What's your opinion?

Do a search and run, These engines are time bombs even with the revisions. Navi fixed them enough to get them thur the warranty phase then you are on your own. They are total P.O.S's.

Doing my search to find a truck, I found one thing, the maxforce no matter what year was the same price as a 10 year older than that year truck from other manufacturers. So I started digging in harder. Maxforce was one of the first motors I crossed out followed by the paccar. That being said my friend that helped me search always debates taking a chance considering how cheap they are. He had 4 good years as a company guy with the early design so even tho he knew of the horror stories he still considers them to this day given how cheap they are. Can't tell you what to do but I went the other way. Good luck.

Sorry, I forgot to add even the change to SCR from there bullcrap non SCR it still tanks. The problems Knight had at the time I worked for them was the motor especially the new ones throwing rods or blowing the top end out of the motor. Every time a rod went it it took out enough #### that it would throw it out the side of the block. Not to mention these motors have a very nasty habbit of running away also, a problem Navi has been trying to fix for years now.

Run from the maxxfoce. They stopped making the engine and even the dealers can't fix them. Look at the alternator it's like a 5 hour+ job to replace because that have to take all kinds of crap off to get to it.

If they stopped production if the engine that not a good sign and International had to admit it was a crazy idea from the the day started to sell them.

Man I would get kicked off the site if I uploaded all of the articles that I found on that piece of pooh last year when I started searching.

Just google "maxforce issue" or "maxforce problem".

I guess I already knew the answere. But it sure is tempting to give 19k for a truck with 200k miles and looks new. I was looking for the silver lining, but alas, there is none.

    Thanks for the replies.

There is a reason a 4-5 year truck has 200k miles on it. And if it ain't truck that has lived a life of luxury hauling around a race car or some other specialized unit, it ain't a good reason. You will be far better off with a million mile truck that has a proven drive train that you get checked out than you will taking a chance on the max. imho.

You'll regret it. It would be cheaper in the long run to pay 3x that much for a truck that will stay on the road.
