If you are going to run any hills,go with the 3.36 and OD trans,,tall gears like 2.64,2.53,2.85,etc are ok on flat ground with light loads but they suck for hills and city traffic when loaded over 35-40k I have 2.85 with a direct 15 trans and I hate it on hills or city driving.

Agreed with javelinjeff, if you want great performance on hills get 3.36, 3.42, 3.55, 3.70 or 3.90. I driven 2.53 with 10 speed direct (fedex freight kw t800), when assembled with isx 400 hp engine, it will do its job on hills when load weight is 32k lbs and lower. 10th gear ratio is 1 to 1. I drive at my homestate of pennsylvania. Great performance when I drive on I-80. Good truck to pass other mega carriers.

Sadly this truck is a company truck, governed at 65, but the bright side, its standard and it has 400 hp spinning to the ground on 10th. compare our fleets newer autos with overdrive (low rpm ####), 2.67 meritor (eats wheel seals like a candy), and only puts 220 hp to the ground on 10th.

    Sounds good to me!!

    I have a 2016 Volvo XE13
    12speed iShift overdrive
With 2:64 rears on 22.5 LP

Turns 1150rpm @ 65 MPH.... With plenty of grunt thanks to the special software Volvo runs in the XE package.

    I cruise 63-66 usually.
Last week i averaged 8.25 MPG running southeast lane.

I run gross wt often and was skeptical ... Well I have fallen in love with this combo, I'm definitely a believer now!!

tax and D12 Owner Thank this.
