I can't think of one time where friends getting mixed up in each other's business has ever worked.
Except to sort out friends from fakes.DrDieselUSA, misterG, spyder7723 and 2 others Thank this. -
Then the clarifications and answers began to turn into rants for which I apologize. It's not like me to air dirty laundry on public.
Anyway, several lessons learned and I'm moving on. My current feeling is I'll never see a dime of what he has admitted he owes me, (much less what he really does owe me).
I'm not going to contact him again. If he actually does make a deposit into my account in the interest of fairness I'll post that here. Otherwise, I'm just moving on and it seems I have an open spot in my friend database....
In retrospect, I guess a large part of the blame is on me. Instead of trying to be helpful and be a nice guy I should have told him I didn't have the money for fuel and if he wanted the truck to move he was going to have to bring me money or a credit card... And bring me the money from the 3 weeks ago car I moved or I was just going back home to sit in the Lazyboy, drink beer and watch TV. Turns out that would have been a lot more productive on my part.... And there were several other lessons learned as well.
Seems no matter how old I get there are never-ending opportunities to learn new things....
I'm usually smarter than this, guess I let him being a "friend" influence my better judgement. Seems there are friends, and then there are real friends..
Thanks much to all those who participated in this discussion. Everybody be safe.DrDieselUSA, misterG, tinytim and 2 others Thank this. -

Having been farther back you most likely would've avoided the accident or at least had a far better chance.
I'd pay the 50/50 and chalk it up to a lesson learned in driving a safe distance.... And especially around 4 wheelers hauling things... They are notorious for very poor or non-existent load securement..CrappieJunkie Thanks this. -
DrDieselUSA, misterG, wore out and 3 others Thank this.

I apologize if my reference to the child failing to fuel your vehicle confused anyone. Sometimes I use metaphors. Other times I use a nine iron. -
#1) I am the original poster and I have CLEARLY said NUMEROUS TIMES...... I WAS NOT FOLLOWING BEHIND, I WAS IN ANOTHER LANE PASSING. And even worse, several other people have chimed in here to point out the same thing.! (And one of those "Reminders" was 2 posts above this nonsense you just posted!) Yet once again, I will say as clearly as possible, for those of you who apparently have zero level of reading comprehension, I was in another lane passing. Just like 100% of any other driver would have done when finding himself on the interstate overtaking a slower vehicle.
#2) The fact that I am also an OO has absolutely no bearing here. I was a hired driver for another company. Period. I was not "borrowing his truck" (and even if I had been, it would have made no difference) I was in fact a temporary hired driver. Had I run his truck into the woods and totaled it the insurance covering my totally sepperate company would no more have come onto play than if I was driving for Swift and crashed 1 of their trucks.
3) Further, you said, "The loss however was preventable. The poster believes he was following to close. Therefore, the poster has some percentage of responsibility for the damage."
Let's look at that statement closer; "The loss however was preventable." HOW? (By having stayed home that day?)
" The poster believes he was following to close." No, the poster (me) has clearly said NUMEROUS times that he was NOT FOLLOWING at all!!
Let me be (try to) be perfectly clear here... If...IF I was following 2-3 car lengths IN THE SAME LANE behind ANYBODY, and ANYTHING would have happend this whole thread would have never happened because it clearly would have been my ####### fault for tailgating, especially at full interstate highway speeds. But again, I repeat, that is NOT what happened. There was passing, not following, going on. NO following. No following. Yes passing. No following.
PLEASE CAREFULLY READ AND UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU READ BEFORE MAKING A POST. This is even more important when you make several posts in a row all based on your messed up misunderstanding of what has clearly been said NUMEROUS times.jeff18, DrDieselUSA, spyder7723 and 3 others Thank this.
