Hopeful first time driver here, currently going through a Schneider funded refresher course (graduated 15 months ago) and have orientation on the 6th in Phoenix. I'm going to be running dry van, western regional and 11/3 home time. I just had a couple questions.

    - How much will 11 western hurt my paycheck compared to 48 lower?

    - How much will 11/3 hurt my paycheck compared to 3 weeks out?

    - How are they generally with getting you home on time?

    - Can I request an automatic truck when I go solo?

    - I heard Schneider trucks don't have APUs, is it still possible to power a mid-tier gaming computer, mini fridge, etc.? Do they have inverters, and does the engine need to be running? (Sorry I'm pretty ignorant on this subject)

    - After a few months will they allow me to switch positions? I'm aiming to be home every other day at least.

    - If you could pick only one cooking device, what would it be? (rice cooker, hot plate, electric grill, microwave, etc.)?

    Thanks!

11 western should keep you just as busy as OTR.
11/3 won't hurt you much, you can always leave earlier if you want. But having 3 full days off every other week will keep you from getting burned out.
Pretty good about hometime, but as always ask to be home a day before you actually need to be there. If it is very important, they will rent you a car.
Automatics are only on the new trucks, so that's between you and your DBL.
Some new trucks have inverters, most do not. If your trying to run a gaming rig you'll need to idle the engine.
I doubt Schneider can offer you home every other day. Put in your 6months to a year, and other opportunities will be available with other companies.
If I had an inverter, microwave hands down. With no inverter, normally just used 12v lunchbox stoveshttps://www.iowa80.com/pd/12-volt-portable-lunchbox-stove/23261/?itemdesc=12%20Volt%20Portable%20Lunchbox%20Stove&gclid=CMnX7fKeoNQCFdccgQodAzoC9g. You can cook quite a few different things, and the foil liners are disposable(easy to clean).

When you find out that you can't have a gaming rig or real food because a fat guy in Wisconsin needs a bigger bonus

That feel. It's disappointing because I had a really good impression of Schneider until I read more into their idling, inverter and APU policies. Their website does say their newer trucks have 1500 and 1800 inverters but wouldn't they just kill the battery if you can't idle?

SNI has a lot of fanboys that are drunk on the orange koolaid but they are nothing special. I'll never go back. They spew "safety first and always" but then set up their trucks to where you can't run the air conditioning when it's below a certain temperature, and you're in the back sweating and not able to sleep. I ate so many ham sandwiches out of that stupid 12 volt cooler that I probably have colon cancer. The pay does not make up for the sacrifices.

Did you drive at all after getting your CDL? You could try Interstate. They want 3 months experience. Lots of freight on the west coast. I walked by one of their company trucks a few weeks ago and he had an APU running, you may want to confirm that all of their trucks have them.

When you want to go local, look into LTL or pulling containers.

This will be my first time driving outside of school + refresher course. I'll have a 90 day contract which is enough time to see how I feel about the company and to hit that 3 month milestone some companies hire at. Definitely not going to deal with an uncomfortable sleeping and living situation beyond what is already expected of company drivers.

Put in 6 months and switch over to local Intermodal. You'll be home every day and make a lot more money than running OTR.

I can honestly say I'm going to feel bad when I quit at the end of this month. I've driven for Swift and Knight in the past and Schneider is the best from my perspective.
