How do you know he is just some schmuck off the street? I had intreviews with UPS and Walmart, and got callbacks from both, before taking my present job. Some companies can recognize drivers who are a potential asset.

Might be too many good drivers thinking the pay is not worth the stress of big brown

How in the hell did you even find the application for a Feeder driver? They're trying to pick me up for a road driver job, not sure if I want it or not since I'm not aware of what BS I'll have to deal with. They seem legit though

Feeder driver is FAR from the pinnacle.

Something odd must be going on in house for big brown to be hiring off the street. I saw an ad in my area for the same thing. Either alot of people retired, got bumped up, or that terrible contract they agreed to a few years ago is allowing for more outside hires.

Looking at UPS in NC. They do hire anyone off the street in some cases but require a year minimum experience in others.

To find a UPS job listing one must actually search for UPS driver jobs. Doing a standard Google search for CDL jobs isn't pulling them up. Once I wrote, UPS CDL jobs Charlotte, as an example, the listings came up.

HAZMAT is required in most cases, but driver experience is a hit or miss. Best thing to do is call a recruited. I am open to discussing things with a recruiter, so I'll do that tomorrow.

Wearing a uniform and shaving isn't a big deal to me if the pay is right. 20 years of service to Uncle Sugar has me able to put up with some extra organizational dumb.

FYI - if Hazmat is required, it is not for a feeder (package, or "Brown") position.

    Feeders require doubles.
UPS Freight requires doubles, hazmat, and tanker.
UPS Truckload requires hazmat only I believe. This position does not pay well at all in comparison to a Feeder or Freight position.

Thanks. Still trying to unwind their adds and positions. I'll probably still go into a bulk division with another carrier, but like to look at options

The package side of UPS won't touch hazmat without an MSDS, and obtaining one of those is usually more trouble than it's worth.

I used to hear this stuff before I came over. One of the drivers at my old company was even insinuating that I was less of a man for even CONSIDERING a job at UPS.

The reality is, if you do your job safely and let them know when there's a delay, they tend to leave you alone. You work for UPS. Evidently you're doing it right.

And stress? Define stress. Stress to me was being at my old company, hopping around from hotel to hotel, never seeing my family, feeling that life was passing me by. Personally, going to work, working hard for 8-12 hours, and then going home at the end of the day isn't stress at all. It's honest work.

I had to take a huge temporary pay cut to come over here, and I've never regretted it.
