    We rent a passenger vehicle every month and run down and back to San Fran, over Donner. Can't remember a vehicle that didn't automatically downshift and maintain speed either up hill or down hill. Suburbans, Tahoe's, Chrysler Pacifica's, etc. All of them.

    I still prefer to shift my own gears, thank you, especially in my 8000 lb Ram. Manuals don't break.
