I don't have one now, but I have everything to get a base station up and running. Heck, I have enough to start a shop nearly! Getting one up and running well has always been the fun for me more so than the mindless conversation that usually occurs on one. I've never had a beam antenna, always ran a ground plane; always wanted a Moonraker! Retiring completely soon, this could get interesting!

I think I could really get interested in ham radio and base stations etc. if I had a mission for doing so. I've disliked small talk all my life, so I can find no point in investing all that time and money in order to expose myself to the mindless conversations Mike referred to, otherwise known as small talk, even if it's from all over the world on a thousand different frequencies.

    Wow!

Now THAT'S the makings of a base station!

I wonder if it can beat a big ole 9-foot stinger.

I've had a few small base stations over the years. Nothing fancy just an old shakespear big stick with mobile radio's ran on power supplies and various small tube amps and a 1x2 transistor amp. Right now I'm working on turning an old chicken coup on our small farm into a radio room and plan on putting a ground plane antenna on top of our barn. But this time I think I'm going to try and run at least 2-4kw.

You guys do know that does not look like CB beam but it looks like something used for Earth Moon Earth communications?

It is counter-weighted with what appears to be a axis rotor to point it up at the sky.
