I trust my Garmin 95% of the time. B4 I start the trip I run turn-by-turn thru the GPS to make sure it routes me as if I had done the map work myself. Sometimes what I hafta do is make most of the trip, stop trip, then re-enter the destination. This solves many of the errors I see with the trip. Often I want to go a different way than what is suggested. If I know I am correct I listen to myself and eventually the GPS catches on and correctly re-routes. Recalculating, recalculating, hey #######,recalculating, OOPS #### driver was right!!

From my understanding all Garmin GPS's have truck routing....I have a streetpilot and my does.

You should be able to aces the truck route under the menu(wrench, looking button)... Under navigation menu you can set your Route Preference's( I have mine set for shorter dist.) Vehicle and avoidance's as well as attention tone. Under the vehicle menu you will have the choice of car/motorcycle,TRUCK,bus emergency and taxi...Chose truck.

    Hope this helps.

If you're driving a Freightliner. You can install a laptop stand for under $50.

Total investment on mine was $40. That included the handy dandy "original" stand I bought at Wal-Mart, and modified (with little effort) to fit my truck.

It can be installed, and removed in under 3 minutes.

It isn't bolted to anything. And it hasn't moved for 3 months, neither has my laptop, even under hard braking conditions. Unless I actually moved it myself. The dash and jump seat layout of the Freightliner is what makes it possible. I'm sure it could be further modified to work as well with other models.

    I ain't paying $250 plus for a laptop stand.....period.

I can provide pictures for anyone who wants to take a look.

Other than that..I haven't seen ANY software that was truly truck specific. Not even the $200 plus PC Miler software.

I've heard that the Garmins aren't actually truck routing....the reason it's on the co-pilot (which i use a c530- and it is not true truck routing) was in case they come out with it, they could add it....I think that got tossed. The 5000 I know nothing about. And I'm with the no way am I paying 300 for a stand, not a chance....I made one that worked for me. My 530 on truck, set to fastest route ( I actually switch back and forth dependent on the routing it choses and my current needs) attempts to stay on bigger roads....but is not 'true' truck routing by any means.
